To ensure the proper operation of irrigation and water supply systems at the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center.

Essential Functions

To provide skills in the performance of work on irrigation systems and equipment. Responsible for the installation, inspection and maintenance of irrigation systems and equipment. Repairs piping of all types, including copper, p.v.c., galvanized and iron. Installs and repairs electric solenoid valves. Installs irrigation systems. Maintains existing irrigation systems by making periodic inspections and necessary repairs. Fine tunes systems to optimum operating potentials. Takes necessary actions to prevent problems such as water run-off. Maintains all components associated with the rainwater harvesting system and the irrigation well including pumps, filters, valves, wiring, meters, and sensors. Maintains record of irrigation water usage and well production. Participates in plant sale festivals and special events. Use onsite golf carts to take materials to garden locations. Performs other relevant duties as assigned.

Other related functions as assigned.

Licenses: Class "C" Operator's Driver's License. Applicant selected must provide a current three year Driving Record from the current state of residence. If not currently a Texas resident, must obtain a Texas Driver's License within 30 days after entering Texas as a new resident.

Required qualifications

High school graduation or GED. Two years of experience performing semi-skilled maintenance and repair work in irrigation fields. Tools of the trade in which work is to be performed. Familiar with computer applications including MS Office suite.

Preferred Qualifications

More than two years of experience performing irrigation maintenance and repair work. TCEQ Irrigation Technician License. Ability to use CAD software for irrigation design and mapping.
