Additional Information


Responsible for the supervision, scheduling and coordination of security guards. Responsible for the security and safety of property and personnel at the University of Texas.

Essential Functions

Supervise, schedule and coordinate assignments for guards. Schedules guards' duty assignments, vacation time and attendance records. Ensures timesheets are accurate and approves on a timely basis as required. Works with the Security Officer to develop and distribute new security rules and procedures, as appropriate, to the guards. Monitor and assist with the security and protection of university buildings and properties. Patrols buildings and grounds to check for safety and general building security. Provide friendly and quality information to students, employees and visitors of The University of Texas at Austin.

Licenses: Class "C" Operator's Driver's License. Applicant selected must provide a current three year Driving Record from the current state of residence. If not currently a Texas resident, must obtain a Texas Driver's License within 30 days after entering Texas as a new resident.

Required qualifications

High school graduation or GED. Stable work history. Ability to communicate clearly both orally and in writing. Must be able to stand or walk for long periods of time to include several hours each day and be able to work in all weather conditions. Must successfully pass a thorough background investigation. Must be able to provide credible testimony in a court of law. Demonstration of the competencies: Motivating others, Planning work for others, Managing conflict, Managing and measuring work, Managing diversity and Complying with policies and procedures at The University of Texas at Austin, typically acquired by a High School Diploma or GED, three years experience as a guard, watchman or police officer. Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

Two years of supervisory experience. A two or four year college degree. Four or more years of experience as a security guard or police officer. Knowledge of the use of two-way, hand-carried radio, telephone switchboard, fire extinguishing equipment, emergency medical aid and vehicle emergency equipment and the university's Transition to Management Certificate (or equivalent). Familiar with police operations. Bilingual English/Spanish.
