Purpose

Automation specialist to program, test and maintain robotic instruments, train personnel on instrument operation, and translate bench top protocols to liquid handlers.

Essential Functions

Programming the Tecan EVO liquid handler to run simple and complex molecular biology protocols with an emphasis on Next Generation Sequencing standard operating procedures. Ability to produce high quality data to match or exceed manual methods, must understand how to define and measure these comparisons. Optimize and troubleshoot liquid handling procedures with no guidance. Work independently but has the capability to work in a team setting. Present outcomes of testing and provide clear and creative solutions to any problems that arise. Train lab technicians to operate instruments. Write protocols outlining procedures following a specific template once tested and validated. Responsible for the upkeep and tracking of preventative maintenance for the instruments.

Licenses: Class "C" Operator's Driver's License. Applicant selected must provide a current three year Driving Record from the current state of residence. If not currently a Texas resident, must obtain a Texas Driver's License within 30 days after entering Texas as a new resident.

Required qualifications

Masters Degree in Life Sciences, Engineering, or related field with minimum of 2 years robotics/automation experience or a Bachelor of Science in Life Science or Computer Science with a minimum of 4 years robotics/automation. Experience in liquid class development. Experience developing protocols for the Tecan instrument and translating those to TouchTools. Must have clear communication skills and ability to solve complex problems. Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

Background in Next Generation Sequencing procedures. Experience in molecular biology laboratory setting.
