Perform journey-level electrical work in support of campus facility renovation and repair projects. Provide temporary power for campus special events.

Essential Functions

Install electrical panels, circuits, lighting fixtures, outlets, and various commercial and laboratory equipment in accordance with construction documents and written-verbal instructions to meet client requirements. Read, understand, and work from design drawings, sketches, construction documents, building codes, and university standards with or without direct supervision. Plan and layout projects; order materials. Inspect final work for compliance with above. Trace circuits and test continuity of electrical circuits for installed equipment using appropriate tools of the trade, as-built drawings, and visual inspection to ensure safe installations. Safely troubleshoot circuits when problems are encountered. Install interior and exterior temporary power for various campus special events. Support zone maintenance shops and other departments in repair of campus facilities, including after-hours response to campus emergencies. Assist in shop operations. Maintain and properly secure shop, tools, equipment, and vehicles. Maintain a clean and safe work environment in shop and at job sites. Wear personal protective equipment as required for each task. Comply with safety standards and policies. Accomplish basic shop paperwork and electronic documents, including records for materials used, daily labor report, and weekly timesheet. Drive UT vehicle in support of campus projects and special events.

Licenses: Class "C" Operator's Driver's License. Applicant selected must provide a current three year Driving Record from the current state of residence. If not currently a Texas resident, must obtain a Texas Driver's License within 30 days after entering Texas as a new resident.

Marginal/Incidental functions

Attend management-directed meetings and training. Accomplish other duties as assigned.

Required qualifications

High school graduation or GED. Three years experience as a journey-level electrician. Licensed by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation as a Journeyman Electrician. Before final offer can be made, successful applicant must provide a current driver's license and acceptable driving record for the most recent 36 months. Texas driving history will be confirmed online during selection process; applicant must provide out-of-state driving history, if previously licensed in another state. Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

Associates degree or graduation from vocational or technical training related to electrical trade or facility renovation or construction. More than three years of journey-level experience as a commercial or industrial electrician with emphasis on interior renovations, including installation of rigid, EMT, and flexible conduit; and various commercial wire raceways. Demonstrated ability to produce quality work from project drawings, specifications, construction standards, or written-verbal instructions with or without direct supervision. Commitment to and compliance with organizational values, goals, and policies regarding customer service, job performance, and job-site safety. Experience working in a large university or commercial-industrial physical plant. Ability to perform and communicate in a team environment with co-workers, supervisors, and clients.
