General Notes

This position will end effective one year from start date. Subsequent annual renewal of employment will be based upon performance review, progress towards research goals, and continuation of funding. May require working flexible hours to include weekends, evenings, or early mornings. Requires working with rodent models.

Essential Functions

Assist in routine histology of rodent brain tissue, including brain sectioning, mounting, bright field or confocal analysis of tissue and immunohistochemistry. Enter, catalog, and analyze data from immunohistology of brain tissue and behavioral experiments. Assist in routine animal care (weighing and recording animal health, pre and post-operative care, recording of all experimental procedures) and self-administration studies (behavioral testing, building of any needed supplies, computer programming, and maintaining proper functioning of the self-administration room).

Required qualifications

Bachelor's degree in biology, biochemistry, life science or related field. Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

Laboratory experience. Excellent organizational and time-management skills. Proficiency with excel and other Windows programs (Word, PowerPoint, etc.) and data management. Proficiency with literature searches. Proficient with at least two of the following: rodent brain anatomy, brain slicing, confocal microscopy, bright field microscopy, immunohistochemistry.
