Provide senior manager oversight for technology operations to support the Texas Digital Library

Essential Functions

Responsible for the technology planning and supervision of a team of system administrators and software engineers that develop and maintain the shared infrastructure of the Texas Digital Library. Motivating others, planning work for others, managing conflict, managing and measuring work, managing diversity. Working with product and service leads, provide estimates of work, assign tasks, develop and enforce processes and procedures for efficient and high-quality work, and manage project timelines for development work, upgrades, and other projects. Serve as lead architect and administrator of systems and oversee application support activities. Develop and maintain architecture for standardization, security, and back-up assurance for TDL services within the Amazon cloud for multiple client universities. Support applications, operating systems and related tools in a Linux environment at Amazon Web Service in support of services and software of the Texas Digital Library. Provide documentation of application architectural development, systems

Required qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field. Successful experience coordinating, directing activities of a unit, including supervising, assigning and evaluating work. Demonstrated expertise with standard concepts, practices, and procedures in systems administration. Proficiency in programming and or scripting languages such as UNIX Shells, Python, PHP and Perl. Professional experience supporting web and database servers on Linux platforms. Experience in Linux server administration. Strong experience with SQL. Understanding of network fundamentals such as TCP IP, network firewalls and proxies. Experience in identity management services. Experience with Sendmail. Ability to work directly with customers. Ability to communicate and develop project plans within a team environment. Ability to work in a team environment. Experience with configuration management systems such as Ansible, Puppet, Chef. Experience with administering applications in Amazon Web Services or other cloud environments. Comfortable working in a devops-like environment in which software development, deployment, and infrastructure management roles overlap. Demonstrated excellent communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

More than five years of professional systems administration experience. Experience in an institution of higher education. Experience in a digital library environment. Experience with digital preservation or archiving. Experience with Java/J2EE. Experience in public and private cloud storage and services. Experience in a university environment. Experience in Solr Lucene search and indexing systems. Experience with REST and other web services. Experience managing DNS LDAP, Apache, Wordpress, Tomcat, MySQL, Postgres, Nagios and Sendmail. Strong experience with identity management, single-sign on, two-factor authentication, etc. Experience with open source applications used by the Texas Digital Library including DSpace, Vireo, DuraCloud, Open Journal Systems, and Dataverse, etc. One or more years of professional experience in an institution of higher education.

May work around standard office conditions Work performed on concurrent multiple projects under pressure of rigid deadlines or time limitations. May require occasional extended work hours or on-call obligation.
