Purpose

To develop journey-level skills by training on skilled work in the Chilling Station Maintenance field within a Utilities environment. Responsible for learning and performing skills in operation, maintenance, and repair of utilities chilled water system and auxiliary equipment.

Essential Functions

Learns Plant Maintenance Mechanic skills by installing, maintaining, operating, and repairing Chilling Plant systems including chillers, pumps, fans, compressors, valves and piping components. Use tools and equipment to perform the duties of the trade assignments as outlined in the Chilling Station Maintenance Mechanic job description. Performs all work in accordance with appropriate safety standards and practices. Performs related duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor. Drive UT vehicle and maintains an acceptable driving record required by UT Systems Policy, UTS157.

Licenses: Class "C" Operator's Driver's License. Applicant selected must provide a current three year Driving Record from the current state of residence. If not currently a Texas resident, must obtain a Texas Driver's License within 30 days after entering Texas as a new resident.

Marginal/Incidental functions

Perform other related functions as assigned. Attends staff meetings. Attends safety training and meetings. Complete plant operation and maintenance training courses. This is a one year term temporary position and is benefits eligible.

Required qualifications

High school graduation or GED. Currently enrolled in or completed associate degree level technical courses in one of the following areas: Plumbing and pipefitting Technology, Building Construction Technology, or related fields. Licenses: Class "C" Operator's Driver's License. Demonstrates good interpersonal communication skills. Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

Enrollment in or completion of associate degree level technical trade program in job-related field. Demonstrated related skilled level experience in the repair and maintenance of industrial plant mechanical, electrical or industrial equipment or utility distribution systems. Experience in maintaining chilling plant or similar industrial/utility equipment. Journey level experience in industrial insulation, including fabrication of insulating blankets, thermal insulation, and asbestos handling and abatement. Welding certification in accordance with ASME and industry codes. Experience as a machinist including fabricating, modifying, and repairing pump, turbine, and boiler parts. Experience in a university plant or utility environment. Experience in using a work order system. Demonstrated ability to work well within a team environment. Demonstrated effective teamwork and interpersonal communication skills.
