Purpose

Provides security support for Applied Research Laboratories.

Essential Functions

Provide courteous, professional assistance to visitors and staff. Answer incoming calls. Operate fax machine, computer, closed circuit video monitoring equipment and public address system. Identify employees, visitors and check badges and issue temporary badges. Conduct random inspections. Ensure strict compliance with established procedures related to urgent actions are properly implemented. Complete various log entries and forms. Control vehicle access to facility and use a vehicle reservation system for staff use of lab vehicles. Make security checks and report safety and fire hazards. Receive and document after hour mail deliveries.

Related tasks as assigned.

Required qualifications

High school graduation or GED. Demonstrated communication skills. Demonstrated ability to pay attention to detail and produce accurate work. Must be flexible to work varied shift assignments. Ability to use common office equipment. Applicant must be able to walk up and down stairs to make security checks. US Citizen. Applicant selected will be subject to government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information at the level appropriate to the project requirements of the position. Employment will be contingent on selected applicant submitting application for access and receiving notification of eligibility within a time period to be specified in the job offer. If eligibility is confirmed within the specified period, employment must begin within 30 days of confirmation of eligibility. Eligibility for access to classified information must continue without interruption during employment. Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

More than one year experience as a guard or police officer. Formal training in law enforcement. Eligibility for immediate access to classified information.

Uniforms and/or personal protection equipment (furnished) May work around standard office conditions Climbing of stairs Evening, weekend and holiday work including variable shifts. Shift work will include shifts at the Lake Travis Test Station.
