Help develop and implement evidence-based protocols for diet and lifestyle change to help patients achieve their health goals.

Essential Functions

Provide direct counseling services to patients in the Dell Medical School Integrated Practice Units (IPUs). Attend IPU team meetings to discuss care pathways for patients. Serve as a nutritional consultant to members of the Collaborative Care team, physician providers and other clinical staff. Develop protocols and materials to educate patients on evidence-based diet and lifestyle approaches to improved mental and physical health. Assist in development and delivery of training programs for physicians, clinical staff, patients and/or community members to improve sensitivity and sophistication with regard to diet as a pathway to health.

Required qualifications

Bachelor's degree of Science in Nutrition, Dietetics, or similar course of study. Must be registered by the Commission on Dietetic Registration, or eligible for registration within six months of hire, and licensed by the State of Texas. Two years of experience providing nutrition services and education. Must be able to speak and write Spanish. Must have knowledge of evidenced-based practices. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both orally and written. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Willingness to innovate and engage others in educational and training programs. Professional demeanor with tact and respect at all times. Ability to address individuals and information with a high degree of sensitivity and confidentiality in various delicate, formal or urgent situations. A self-starter with the ability to work efficiently and flexibly in a fast-paced environment with minimal guidance. Outstanding organizational and time-management skills. Highly detail-oriented. Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

At least five years of experience providing direct patient care in a medical setting. Experience promoting evidence-based practices with medically under-served populations.
