Additional Information


Coordinate daily operations pertaining to awarding several endowed scholarships. Assist the manager with other scholarship endowment functions as needed. Counsel students on financial aid eligibility, personal financial planning, and money management.

Essential Functions

Review scholarship applications and supporting documentation to award donor scholarships to eligible students. Coordinate with University staff to review and select applicants for prestigious endowed scholarships. Maintain and provide content support for all scholarship applications. Provide scholarship program administration and processing training to staff through presentations and hands-on work. Maintain policies and procedures manual and assist the section supervisor as needed. Design, prepare, and maintain forms, reports, and files. Assist in the update of website content and design. Assist in other job duties as assigned. Assist with financial aid processing, including monitoring output, verifying applicant eligibility and resolving eligibility issues. Review and resolve financial aid files. Award state, university, and federal financial aid funds to students. Counsel students on financial aid eligibility, personal financial planning, and money management. Interact with other University departments, state and federal agencies, and industry partners. Attend professional development and training meetings. Participate in community outreach, making presentations on various financial aid topics.

Marginal/Incidental functions

Other related functions as assigned.

Licenses: Class "C" Operator's Driver's License. Applicant selected must provide a current three year Driving Record from the current state of residence. If not currently a Texas resident, must obtain a Texas Driver's License within 30 days after entering Texas as a new resident.

Required qualifications

Bachelor's degree. A combination of two years of experience in student financial aid, student personnel, student services or related field. Must be organized, detail-oriented, and customer-focused. Candidate must have superior communication and time-management skills and a professional demeanor. Must be capable of multi-tasking in a high-stress environment. Should be willing to work evenings and weekends during peak processing periods. Must be able to prioritize work assignments to complete work within required time periods. Must divest of any stock or ownership interest in student loan lender before start of employment. Shares in publicly traded mutual fund or similar investment vehicle are exempt. As a condition of hire and continued employment, must be in good standing on all federal student loans and must grant permission for the office to access NSLDS to verify such standing.

Preferred Qualifications

One year of experience working in the OFA as a Student Financial Aid Officer I. Two years of experience in financial aid. Extremely detail-oriented. Excellent interpersonal skills. Ability to handle stressful situations with composure. Knowledge of and proficiency with software including MS Word and Excel. Ideal candidate will be able to set priorities and manage multiple projects. Ability to remain productive in a fast-paced, shared space environment with frequent interruptions. Ability to make presentations to individuals and groups of various sizes. Spanish-speaking is a plus.
