Research and development of content understanding software including design, implementation, configuration, testing and evaluation for text-based content analysis software.

Essential Functions

Design, develop configure, test, and integrate software to meet requirements of sponsored research projects. Perform knowledge acquisition and documentation of project requirements and subject-specific expertise. Prepare and deliver research publications, presentations and software documentation. Communicate with project team members and supervisors for timely implementation of project requirements.

Marginal/Incidental functions

Other related functions as assigned.

Required qualifications

Bachelor's degree in engineering, computer and information science or other applied sciences and three years experience in the same areas. Demonstrated experience with natural language processing and/or computational linguistics. Proficiency in object-oriented software design and development and application of software engineering principles of encapsulation, modularity, maintainability, testability, and usability in software design and development. Strong technical writing skills. Demonstrated knowledge of both Linux and Windows environments. Ability to work independently with sensitive and confidential information, maintain a professional demeanor, and effectively communicate with diverse groups. Ability and desire to take on a technical leadership role and to work as a team member without day-to-day supervision. Regular and punctual attendance. US. Citizen. Applicant selected will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information at the level appropriate to the project requirements of the position.

Preferred Qualifications

Master's degree in engineering, computer and information sciences, or other applied sciences and five years experience in the same. Advanced coursework or significant experience related to natural language processing, computational linguistics, machine learning, graph analysis, information retrieval, statistics, data fusion, and/or decision support. Experience with knowledge modeling/representation, as well as ontology building tools. Demonstrated experience developing software in Java, C++, Python, and other languages. Publications in peer-reviewed venues. Experience with knowledge acquisition and requirements elicitation/documentation/traceability. Eligibility for immediate access to classified information. Cumulative GPA of 3.0 with a GPA of 3.2 in relevant coursework.
