To perform DNA sequencing and provide customer support to University of Texas researchers and external customers for the Sanger core under the Genomic Sequencing and Analysis Facility.

Essential Functions

Perform DNA sequencing using equipment such as the 3730 DNA analyzer. Evaluate, select, and apply scientific techniques to achieve optimum results. Maintain clear and precise records. Assist with improving day to day operations by providing constructive feedback on workflow and on the electronic tracking system. Work with software developer as needed to troubleshoot or improve current Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS). Maintenance of the Biomek and ABI 3730 instrument. Check sample quality and quantity using various instruments in the lab; Qubit, Bioanalyzer, Fluoroskan, Nanodrop. Assist customers with submitting samples, as well as viewing and downloading results. Write protocols outlining procedures following a specific template once method has been tested and validated. Responsible for tracking necessary reagents and consumables needed for sequencing.

Required qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Life Sciences, Engineering or related field. Minimum of 2 years laboratory experience. Ability to clearly communicate verbally and electronically. Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with Sanger Sequencing setup and trouble shooting. Experience in a molecular biology laboratory setting. Next Generation Library prep experience.
