To conduct research on procurement and construction of transportation projects within the Center for Transportation Research for government agencies-local and regional Texas transportation agencies, the Texas Department of Transportation, and the U.S. Department of Transportation

Essential Functions

Work closely with clients (mostly local and regional Texas transportation agencies and the Texas State Department of Transportation) on enhancing controls for timely project delivery. Develop and calibrate innovative methods and techniques to assist in mitigating the impacts of construction activities on the traveling public through faster and timely delivery of projects. Assist with the procurement and management of projects using innovative project delivery methods. Conduct document reviews and bid data analyses for evaluating the performance alternative delivery methods and techniques. Analyze construction data to understand and improve project performance. Maintain and disseminate current and state-of-the-art practices and techniques related to time estimation, productivity improvement, and alternative project delivery in the transportation area. Supervise undergraduate and graduate research assistants in conducting research activities as needed. Participate/lead/coordinate grant applications, research proposal writing, and report preparation.

Marginal/Incidental functions

Related functions include, but are not limited to, partnership development, regular meetings, and visits to TxDOT and local transportation stakeholder locations to deliver presentations and facilitate stakeholder engagement.

Required qualifications

Ph.D. in Civil Engineering with significant coursework in construction engineering and project management. Graduate coursework in project controls, statistics, and data analysis. Prior experience in the transportation and/or infrastructure areas. Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

Prior experience working with the Texas Department of Transportation and other transportation agencies. Licensed professional engineer. Flexibility to work on-site including project sites.
