Additional Information


Exploitation and analysis of remotely sensed (airborne and space-based), geospatial data for a variety of applications. Contribute to the Geospatial Laser Applications and Measurements group research tasks and objectives associated with laser ranging technology.

Essential Functions

Employ computational solutions for airborne and space-based remotely sensed data product production and application. Participate in algorithm integration in existing architectures and provide test and evaluation analysis on data products. Analyze space-based laser altimetry data for quality assessment and scientific discovery.

Required qualifications

Bachelor's degree in engineering, computer or information science, geoscience or other applied sciences. Demonstrated experience and proficiency in working with remotely sensed data, and data products. Applicant should have proficiency in Matlab, Python, ENVI and Unix shell scripting. Applicant must be willing to work with new technologies, be highly organized, and capable of planning and coordinating multiple tasks and managing their time. The applicant should have experience with software packages for research projects. The position will require attention to detail, effective problem solving skills, and innovation. Ability to work independently with sensitive and confidential information, maintain a professional demeanor, work as a team member without daily supervision and effectively communicate with diverse groups of clients. Regular and punctual attendance is required. The applicant must be a U.S. Citizen and will be subject to a government security investigation in order to determine eligibility for access to classified information at the level appropriate to the project requirements of the position.

Preferred Qualifications

Advanced coursework, graduate degree or significant experience related to lidar remote sensing applications. Demonstrated experience and familiarity in working with lidar point clouds, data registration and terrain analysis. Applicant should have prior experience in geospatial application solutions using novel algorithm techniques and working knowledge of processing, exploitation and dissemination workflows for airborne and space-based lidar data production. Demonstrated excellent interpersonal communication skills. History of publication in relevant journals and/or industry conferences. Cumulative GPA of 3.0 with a 3.5 in major coursework or higher.
