To raise philanthropic support for the Dell Medical School at the University of Texas at Austin from significant gift donors with a capacity of 250,000 dollars to 5,000,000 dollars. It is anticipated that this gift officer will work on a number of gifts of 1,000,000 dollars and more annually.

Essential Functions

Build and carry an active portfolio of 50-125 prospective donors. Engage in qualification, strategy, relationship building and closing of principal gift(s) at 1,000,000 dollars plus. Within 36 months of start date, consistently produce 4,000,000 to 6,000,000 dollars plus per year. Participate in proposal preparation, strategy development, and stewardship as required for donors in the portfolio. Effectively work with faculty and academic leaders. Maintain appropriate electronic documentation on a timely basis, including proposal tracking, contact reports, donor strategies, and forecasting in VIP. Develop timely reports, letters, proposals, or gift agreements following a contact. Work collaboratively, proactively, and in a professional, service-oriented manner with all University development officers to further the development goals of the University. Other related functions as assigned.

Required qualifications

Bachelor's degree. A minimum of five years of increasingly responsible experience in major gifts fundraising or related fields. Experience in developing a strategic development plan for soliciting and securing gifts from private sources. Proven and measurable track record of successful face-to-face interactions with prospective donors. Experience in establishing strategies for identifying, qualifying, and cultivating prospective donors. Experience in developing and presenting gift proposals to prospective donors. Experience supporting senior administrators, faculty, and fellow gift officers. Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills. Demonstrated ability to think strategically and creatively, work well under pressure, and manage details of several concurrent projects. Proven project management skills. Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment. Must be able to travel to visit prospects and donors. Capable of working independently. Work with integrity and professionalism. Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

Eight or more years of increasingly responsible experience in individual major gifts fundraising with a track record of closing significant gifts. Experience working in a large-scale development operation. Experience with prospect management systems, e.g. VIP, Raiser's Edge, etc. Preference for candidates with experience or interest in health care.
