Purpose

Analyze, design, develop, implement, document, maintain, and/or enhance enterprise applications developed for staff within Applied Research Laboratories.

Essential Functions

Work with end users and other team members as necessary to analyze, design, develop, debug, document, maintain, and enhance applications that comply with internal standards while maintaining or improving accuracy and efficiency. Verify, validate, and test code changes using supported workstation configurations. Provide additional DBA support. Mentor (provide guidance and training to) other software developers on the team. Provide user training, documentation and support for internally developed and supported applications. Consult with departmental personnel for requirements development/refinement and problem definition as necessary. Maintain a detailed work log and revision notes.

Marginal/Incidental functions

Research and resolve problems with all supported browsers, application servers, database servers and related software installed and configured in direct support of the developed administrative applications. Other related functions as assigned.

Required qualifications

Bachelor's degree and at least three years of demonstrated experience designing, developing and testing applications for end users in a multi-browser environment within the last six years or high school graduation or GED, and seven years of such experience. Experience defining end user software system requirements. Demonstrated ability to efficiently and effectively analyze, test, and debug complex code. Demonstrated ability to work independently and with sensitive and confidential information, maintain a professional demeanor, work as a team member without day-to-day supervision, work several overlapping projects over a short period of time, ability to work within an environment with rapidly changing priorities. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with diverse groups of clients. Able to work under pressure and accept supervision. Regular and punctual attendance. US Citizen: Applicant selected will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information at the level appropriate to the project requirements of the position.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in computer science, or related field. Additional experience in required areas. Strong organizational skills with attention to detail. Experience using Oracle database and Oracle Application Servers. Three years recent experience using Oracle PL/SQL and Oracle (Forms/APEX) Developer Suite for application development. At least three years of experience tuning applications in an Oracle environment. At least five years of experience developing applications. Experience with HTML5, PHP/Python/Ruby, JavaScript, and/or Java, as well as designing web pages. Experience developing reports using Information Builders' WebFOCUS. Experience working in a UNIX or Linux environment. Demonstrated ability to mentor other developers. Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0.
