Additional Information

Purpose

Research and development for decision-support and analysis software in cyber security including design, implementation, configuration, testing, and evaluation.

Essential Functions

Design, develop, configure, test and integrate software to meet requirements of sponsored research projects. Install, configure, and modify network-based and host based security monitoring software. Perform system administration for specialized project computing platform. Prepare technical documentation and technical presentations. Communicate with project team members, supervisors, and sponsors for timely implementation of project requirements.

Required qualifications

Bachelor's degree plus three years of work experience in computer/software engineering, computer science, or other applied sciences. Demonstrated experience in network cyber defense and information security. Demonstrated experience developing software in Java or C++, and multiple scripting languages. System administration experience with Linux and Windows. Familiarity with TCP/IP and network packet analysis. Ability to assess and incorporate new technology into project development. Ability to work independently with sensitive and confidential information, maintain a professional demeanor, and effectively communicate with diverse groups. Ability and desire to take on a technical leadership role and to work as a team member without daily supervision. US Citizen: Applicant selected will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information at the level appropriate to the project requirements of the position.

Preferred Qualifications

Master's degree in computer/software engineering, computer science, or other applied sciences. Experience applying software engineering principles of encapsulation, modularity, maintainability, testability, usability, etc. in software design and development. Strong technical writing skills. Experience with technical presentations. Demonstrated knowledge of virtual machine setup and configuration. Experience with securing servers and clients on a network system. Proficiency with TCP/IP and network packet analysis. Experience with network and host-based security monitoring and data analysis. Familiarity with security intrusion detection and incident response. Cumulative GPA of 3.0 with a GPA of 3.2 in relevant coursework.

Working conditions
