Purpose

Design, develop, and maintain software applications for the collection and processing of measurement data relating to GPS/GNSS, survey, and geodesy.

Essential Functions

Design, implement, and maintain scientific software applications in C++ and Python. Design, implement, and maintain automated tests for software applications. Provide technical leadership to one or more projects or project areas, undertake complex project development activities with minimal guidance, and mentor junior staff. Contribute to the systems designs and collection methods for specialized geodetic survey applications, employing expertise in physics, engineering, math, and science. Document work in a manner suitable for external distribution or publication, and prepare and/or present papers at appropriate conferences and professional meetings. Participate in project reviews and technical interface meetings to present software designs and test results to sponsors and other external organizations. Present and publish work in trade conferences. Provide technical assistance to users. Document and address bug reports. Further develop knowledge and skills related C++, Python, the Linux/Apache/MySQL/PHP (LAMP) stack, software development principles, principles of geodesy and global navigation satellite systems (GNSS), and estimation theory.

Required qualifications

Bachelor of Science degree in engineering, computer science, physics, geodesy, or other applied science(s). Three years of experience in collaborative software development. One or more years experience with C++ and Python. Applicant must have a dynamic skill set, willing to work with new technologies, be highly organized and capable of planning and coordinating multiple tasks and managing their time. The position will require attention to detail, effective problem solving skills and excellent judgment. Ability to work independently with sensitive and confidential information, maintain a professional demeanor, work as a team member without daily supervision and effectively communicate with diverse groups of clients. Able to work under pressure and accept supervision. Regular and punctual attendance. US Citizen. Applicant selected will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information at the level appropriate to the project requirements of the position.

Preferred Qualifications

Master's degree in in engineering, computer science, physics, geodesy, or other applied science(s). Bachelor's or Master's degree in electrical engineering. History of publications in relevant journals and/or industry conferences. Experience with Linux terminal-based environments including bash. Experience with web development technologies, e.g. HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and PHP. Experience developing on Linux, Windows, and OS X platforms. Experience developing graphical user interface applications using Qt, Qt. Creator Experience developing scientific software applications in C++ and Python. Experience maintaining and administrating Linux servers. Experience using software configuration management processes, e.g. Subversion, Git. Experience using continuous integration and automated testing software development frameworks. Experience building and configuring continuous integration and automated testing software development frameworks. Cumulative GPA of 3.0.
