This position will provide technical support to the Space and Geophysics Laboratory which designs, builds, and deploys position, navigation, and timing systems.

Essential Functions

Fabricate electrical and mechanical assemblies for both prototype and production GPS systems. Assist engineering staff in the design and testing of electrical and mechanical systems. Troubleshoot and repair hardware components. Document hardware modifications and system upgrades.

Licenses: Class "C" Operator's Driver's License. Applicant selected must provide a current three year Driving Record from the current state of residence. If not currently a Texas resident, must obtain a Texas Driver's License within 30 days after entering Texas as a new resident.

Marginal/Incidental functions

Other related functions as assigned, occasional domestic travel, and after-hours support.

Required qualifications

High school graduation or GED. Seven years of experience in the construction construction of electrical and mechanical system with knowledge of standard shop machines and measuring tools. This position will require attention to detail, effective problem solving skills and excellent judgment. Must possess a valid driver's license. Ability to work independently, maintain a professional demeanor, work as a team member without daily supervision, and effectively communicate with diverse groups of people. U.S. Citizen. Applicant selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information at the level appropriate to the project requirements. Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

Have an Associate's degree in electronics technology, electronics technician, or networking and computer electronics and 10 years of experience in the construction of electrical and mechanical system with knowledge of standard shop machines and measuring tools. Two or more years related to the development, operation, maintenance, and testing of GPS systems. Experience in documenting of electrical and mechanical assemblies using a CAD program. Have had prior or immediate eligibility for access to classified information.
