Provide systems administration support the for the Signal and Information Sciences Laboratory within the Applied Research Laboratories

Essential Functions

Responsible for troubleshooting, installing, configuring and maintaining physical and VMware virtual computing environments that consist primarily of Red Hat Linux, Microsoft Windows and Apple OSx operating systems running on multi-vendor servers and workstations using manual and automated deployment methods such as Cobbler and Microsoft's Windows Deployment Services (WDS) in support of sponsored projects. Work with research staff to provide scripting solutions in support of sponsored projects. Support security administrative tasks by deploying configuration management and monitoring tools such as Puppet Labs configuration management system, and Splunk in an offline restricted environment to maintain systems in accordance with the Risk Management Framework (RMF), based on Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs). Plan and execute backups using an enterprise hosted backup solution. Participate in the configuration of isolated networks including switches, routers and other operating systems as needed.

Required qualifications

Bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, security administration, or related field. Will need to obtain a DoD 8570.1 Level II Certification, such as CompTIA Network+, within 6 months of hire date. Three or more years of administering Red Hat or CentOS environments. Experience configuring and deploying Red Hat Linux using Cobbler and Puppet Labs configuration management system. Experience configuring and deploying Microsoft Systems using Windows Deployment Service (WDS). Knowledge of networking concepts and able to configure CISCO layer 2 and layer 3 switches. Experience using and configuring Splunk for system log aggregation. Experience using BASH and Python scripting languages. Excellent organizational, problem-solving, written and oral skills. Must have a professional demeanor, be punctual and have the ability to work with little to no supervision. Able to work under pressure/accept supervision. US Citizen: Applicant selected will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information at the level appropriate to the project requirements of the position. Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Information Systems or related field. CompTIA Network+ and/or Security+ certifications. Eligibility for immediate access to classified information. Use of source code management tools such as Subversion or GIT. Knowledge of Windows administration including Active Directory, SharePoint and Microsoft Office. Experience hardening operating systems and applications based on DISA STIGs and verifying with the SCAP compliance checker. CCENT certification
