Foundations of Mathematical Reasoning Corequisite Support Activity Student Pages (third edition)
Printed Book
The Dana Center's Foundations of Mathematical Reasoning
(FMR) course is a semester-long developmental-level quantitative
literacy-based course that surveys a variety of mathematical
topics needed to prepare students for college-level statistics,
quantitative reasoning, or algebra-intensive courses, as well as
the workplace and as productive citizens.
This book is an
optional companion to the Dana Center's Foundations of
Mathematical Reasoning (FMR). It contains structured individual
and collaborative activities for use during an additional support
class, for students who are at the adult basic education level.
These worksheets are backmapped from the FMR activities and
prepare students to be able to complete the upcoming FMR preview
assignments on their own; they are not intended to support
traditional texts. Support content prepares students in
developing conceptual understanding of numeracy, evaluating
expressions and formulas; rates, ratios, and proportions;
percentages; solving equations; linear models; data
interpretations, including graphs and tables; verbal, algebraic,
and graphical representations of functions; and exponential
models. It also supports development of multiple strategies for
solving problems, and the ability to read, write, and talk about
mathematical concepts.
This companion course should run
throughout the term; three contact hours per week, with the same
instructor, are recommended.
