BRACKENRIDGE FIELD LABS, 2907 Lake Austin Blvd Public Intoxication: A non-UT subject was observed staggering and walking in circles, while looking at street signs. When stopped, officers detected a strong odor of alcohol on his person. The subject stated that he had consumed way too much alcohol and repeated "Head not right." The officer determined the subject was a danger to himself. Occurred on: 6-04-06 at 3:07 AM. PERRY-CASTANEDA LIBRARY, 101 East 21st Street Public Intoxication: A non-UT subject was discovered passed out on the brick retaining wall located on the north side of the library. The subject had in his possession a one-gallon bottle of Vodka, of which he had been partaking (between ¾ and ½ of the contents of the bottle were remaining). During the investigation, the officer detected a very strong odor of an alcoholic beverage on his person. The subject was confused as to where he was, his birth date, and his home address. The officer determined that the subject was a danger to himself. The remainder of the alcohol was destroyed. Occurred on: 6-03-06 at 5:46 PM. 300 BLOCK EAST MARTIN LUTHER KING BLVD. Public Intoxication: A UT police officer observed a non-UT subject staggering and swaying in the middle of the roadway as vehicles were passing him on either side. When stopped, the officer detected a moderate odor of an alcoholic beverage on his person. The subject told the officer that he was trying to talk to all of the people in the street and tell them about God. The officer determined the subject posed a danger not only to himself but other motorists as well. Occurred on: 6-03-06 at 3:44 AM. 2100 BLOCK SAN JACINTO BLVD. Driving While Intoxicated: A silver Isuzu SUV was observed traveling east on 21st Street. As the vehicle approached the intersection at San Jacinto, the vehicle failed to stop. The officer observed the vehicle come to a complete stop in the intersection, blocking both the north and south bound lanes. When the officer stopped behind the vehicle, he detected an odor of an alcoholic beverage on the driver's person. The officer also observed a female passenger slumped over but awake. When the driver exited the vehicle he needed to support himself with the open door. The officer also observed that the driver's pants were unbuttoned and his belt was also undone. After failing several standard field tests it was determined that the driver was operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of both alcohol and an illegal substance. Occurred on: 6-04-06 at 4:20 AM. Crime Prevention Tip: Tomorrow is the start of freshmen orientation which will last for six weeks. For many this will be the first time that they have been away from home and the excitement of being part of the University of Texas will overwhelm a few. The allure of the parties and the night life on 6th Street will be to great a temptation. For some a thief will become their very first professor and educate them about leaving their personal property unattended or unsecured. Each of us needs to take these incoming freshmen under our wings and help them. "What starts here changes the world," can take on a new meaning. Let's let the thieves know we are watching. CAMPUS WIDE: Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, The University of Texas Police Department responded to 21 alarm calls, 2 key assists, 3 emergency call, and 10 unsecured door reports between 06-02-06 and 06-05-06.
