CAMPUS WATCH: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department patrol officers between Wednesday, 06-28-06 and Thursday, 0-6-29-06. CAROTHERS DORMITORY, 2501 WHITIS AVE. Theft: A red Trek mountain bicycle was stolen from the bike racks located on the on the east side for the Communications Building after being secured with a self-locking cable. Loss value: $250.00. Occurred between: 6-27-06, at 5:30 PM and 6-28-06, at 3:30 PM. COLORADO APARTMENTS, 2501 Lake Austin Blvd. Public Intoxication: A non-UT subject approached a UT student and informed him that she could not find her apartment. The non-UT subject had a difficult time standing and maintaining her balance while talking to the student. During the investigation, the officer detected a strong odor of alcohol on her breath. The subject denied having consumed any alcohol, but admitted to having consumed "ecstasy." The officer determined the subject was a danger to herself and transported her to Central Booking. Occurred on: 6-28-06, at 9:28 PM. 200 BLOCK EAST DEAN KEETON Attempted Theft: An unknown subject was observed kneeling next to a bicycle using a pair of wire cutters to remove the cable lock securing the bicycle to the bike rack located on the south portion of CPE. The owner of the bicycle came out of the building and observed the attempted theft. The owner contacted the police after confronting the thief. The unknown subject is described as: Black male, 6'-0". The subject was last seen wearing a black T-shirt, and either long black shorts or black pants. When he was confronted the subject headed towards the Guadalupe Street area. Loss value: $10.00. Occurred on: 6-28-06, at 6:43 PM. Crime Prevention Tip: The owner of the bicycle waited about five minutes before contacting the University of Texas Police to report the attempted theft. This five-minute time frame allowed the thief to leave the area undetected by the police responding to the area. The next FREE PIZZA might be yours. 1800 BLOCK RED RIVER Assist Outside Agency: A non-UT subject was observed shaking the exterior doors to the building violently in an attempt to enter the building. During the investigation, the officer learned that the subject had an outstanding outside agency warrant. The subject was transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 6-29-06, at 12:46 AM. 200 BLOCK SAN JACINTO BLVD. Driving While Intoxicated: A blue 1995 Honda was observed traveling north in the southbound traffic lane, at a high rate of speed. The officer detected a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage on the breath of the driver. During the investigation, the officer requested the subject's driver's license. The driver handed the officer a credit card. After the officer administered a standardized field sobriety test to the driver, and determined the driver was intoxicated, the subject was taken into custody and transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 6-29-06, at 2:30 AM. CAMPUS WIDE: Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, The University of Texas Police Department responded to 6 alarm calls, 2 key assists, 2 medical emergency calls, and 5 unsecured door reports between 06-28-06 and 06-29-06.
