Crime Prevention Tip of the Day: Within the last few days there seems to be an increase in the number of stolen bicycles around campus as well as in the apartment complexes. The thieves in some of these cases are not simply cutting the lock and riding away. They are looking to steal several bikes at one time and simply drive away. In today's issue of the Campus Watch, the majority of the reported stolen bicycles were secured with a self-locking cable lock. A cable lock by it self provides little or no protection. Only two of the reported stolen bicycles were registered with the University of Texas- Austin Parking and Transportation. For more information please visit the Parking and Transportation website at: http://www.utexas.edu/parking/transportation/ CAMPUS WIDE: Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, The University of Texas Police Department responded to 31 alarm calls, 5 medical emergency calls, 3 lighting surveys, 1 collision report, 3 suspicious activity reports, and 25 unsecured door reports between 07-14-06 and 7-18-06. Contact UT Police at 471-4441 if you have any information regarding any of the above incidents or call 911 regarding suspicious persons, suspicious activities or crime.
