JESTER WEST DORMITORY, 201 East 21st Street Public intoxication: Two unidentified males dropped off a non-UT subject at a 7th floor dormitory room. The two males ran off saying, "She was drunk." The non-UT subject began having body tremors, then started to vomit on herself and the bed that she was lying on. When the subject went unconscious, the University of Texas police department was notified. When the officers arrived in the room, the subject was still having body tremors and was unresponsive. Austin EMS arrived and treated the subject for alcohol poisoning. The subject was transported to a local area hospital for alcohol poisoning. Due to the subject's age, her parents were contacted and she was removed from the program that she was attending. Occurred on: 7-28-06, at 2:40 AM. TEXAS SWIM CENTER, 1900 Red River Street Theft / Criminal Trespass: An unidentified UT staff member stopped a UT police officer and explained that a subject was using a hacksaw to cut through a U-shaped lock. The officer observed a non-UT subject kneeling beside a silver Trek; lying on the ground, beside the bicycle, was a hacksaw. Officers observed that there were saw marks on the lock. The subject was taken into custody. During the investigation, the officer discovered that the subject had been issued a prior written criminal trespass warning in February 2006. Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol by a Minor: A red Hyundai was observed parked along the south curb line with its flashers on. The passenger inside the vehicle appeared to have passed out. When the officer pulled behind the red vehicle, the driver turned the car on and attempted to drive away. The passenger woke up and raised her head. When the officer approached the driver's side of the vehicle, he detected a moderate odor of alcohol on the breath of the driver. During the investigation, the officer determined that the driver was under the legal age of 21 and had been consuming an alcoholic beverage. Once he determined that the driver was not intoxicated, he confiscated her driver's license. The subject became very upset that her driver's license was confiscated and told the officer that even though she had been drinking, and had the odor of alcohol on her breath, the odor was not a detectable amount. The subject was issued a field release citation for Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol by a Minor. Occurred on: 7-28-06, at 3:30 AM. Crime Prevention Tip: Under Texas law, the officer needs to determine that the following elements are met in order to charge a person for Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol by a Minor: - The person is under the legal age of 21. - The person was operating a motorized vehicle. - The person has a detectable amount of alcohol on their person. Any detectable amount - this includes mere smell. 400 BLOCK WEST 25TH STREET Driving While Intoxicated / Leaving the Scene of a Collision: A red Chevy Tahoe was observed traveling east in the 400 block West 25th Street at a very slow speed. The vehicle then stopped in the middle of the intersection, blocking the northbound traffic lane. When the officer asked the driver if she needed assistance, the driver told the officer that she did not understand what he had asked her. The officer repeated his question and observed that the driver's eyes were watery and extremely bloodshot. The officer detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the breath of the driver. The officer asked the driver if she had been drinking alcohol, and the driver told the officer "no." The officer observed an open 12 oz. can of beer in the console of the vehicle. During the investigation, the driver was unable to complete a Standardized Field Sobriety test. The driver was taken into custody for Driving While Intoxicated and transported to Central Booking.
