CAMPUS WATCH: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department patrol officers between Friday, 07-28-06 and Monday, 07-31-06. ENGINEERING SCIENCE BUILDING, 2501 Speedway Theft: A red 10-speed Pugeot was stolen from the bike racks located on the west side of the building after being secured with a cable lock. Loss value: $150.00. Occurred between: 7-15-06, at 5:00 PM and 7-16-06, at 6:00 PM. FACILITIES COMPLEX, 1301 EAST DEAN KEETON SUSPICIOUS Activity: A red Ford truck entered into the parking lot the wrong way. The subject blocked another vehicle from being able to exit the lot. The driver of the red Ford truck became incensed and began making facial and hand gestures, such as sticking out his tongue and waving his hands and arms. His gestures were described as childish. Occurred on: 7-27-06, at 4:00 PM. Reported on: 7-28-06, at 9:21 AM. HOMER RAINEY HALL, 200 West 21st Street Burglary: An Olympus monitor was stolen from a secured 3rd floor classroom. Loss value: Unknown at this time. Occurred on: 7-30-06 at 4:05 PM. HOMER RAINEY HALL, 200 West 21st Street Burglary: A Proxima projector was stolen from a 3rd floor classroom after the locks, used to secure the property, were cut. Loss value: $2,500.00. Occurred on: 7-28-06, at 1:15 PM. PERFORMING ARTS CENTER, 510 East 23rd Street Theft: A white Bell bicycle was stolen from the bike racks located on the north side of the building after being secured with a self-locking cable lock. Loss value: $50.00. Occurred on: 7-27-06, between 4:30 PM and 10:00 PM 500 BLOCK MARTIN LUTHER KING Public Intoxication: A UT police officer observed a subject staggering and swaying. When the officer stopped the subject, the officer observed that the subject was crying. The subject stated that he was lost and tired of walking. As the officer got closer to the subject, the officer detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the subject's breath. The subject informed the officer that he wanted to go to jail, because he was tired of walking. The officer determined that the subject was intoxicated and posed a danger to himself. The subject was taken into custody for Public Intoxication and transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 7-30-06, at 3:21 AM. 600 BLOCK COLORADO STREET Public Intoxication: A non-UT subject was observed staggering and admiring the texture of several walls to maintain his balance. As the subject attempted to cross the street he lost his balance; had it not been for the proper placement of a parking meter, the subject would have fallen. During the investigation, the officer detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the subject's breath. The officer asked the subject for his driver's license. The officer was handed a credit card. During the investigation, the officer determined the subject was a danger and took him into custody for Public Intoxication and transported him to Central Booking. Occurred on: 7-29-06, at 1:50 AM. 2300 BLOCK SAN JACINTO Assist Outside Agency: A non-UT subject and a UT student were discovered lying down inside a truck. During the investigation the non-UT subject informed the officer that he did not have any identification on him. The subject provided the officer with his name and date of birth. The officer discovered that the subject had two outstanding outside agency warrants. The subject was taken into custody and transported to Central Booking. The student went back to dormitory room. Occurred on: 7-30-06, at 1:11 AM. 2600 BLOCK GUADALUPE Driving While Intoxicated: A non-UT subject reported to a UTPD officer that he had witnessed a subject being kicked out of a local areas business due to the subject's aggressive behavior. The witness reported that the subject then got into a vehicle and came close to driving through the front doors of the business before putting the vehicle into reverse and driving away. The vehicle was located driving the wrong way on a one-way street. When the vehicle was stopped the officer detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the driver's breath. When the officer asked the driver if he knew that he was driving the wrong way down the street, the driver stated "Yes." The driver became argumentative towards the officer and refused to exit his vehicle. The driver informed the officer that he had split a six-pack of beer with his girlfriend, then went to several local area businesses with friends, but was okay to drive. When the subject did exit his vehicle he needed the support of the vehicle to keep from falling down. During the investigation, the subject refused twice to begin a Standardized Field Sobriety test. The driver told the officer, Take me to jail." The officer complied. The subject was taken into custody for Driving While Intoxicated and transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 7-29-06, at 1:55 AM. CRIME PREVENTION TIP: On August 1, 2006 the University of Texas will be participating in the annual National Night Out. This is an annual, nationwide campaign to promote community building, teamwork, and crime prevention.
