Report for 08/17/2006

CAMPUS WATCH: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department patrol officers between Wednesday, 08-16-06 and Thursday, 08-17-06. 1100 BLOCK GUADALUPE Assist Outside Agency: A tan Toyota was observed stopped at an intersection honking its horn continuously for an extended period of time. When the driver of the Toyota saw a marked police vehicle in the area he sped off at a high rate of speed. When the vehicle was stopped several blocks away the driver exited the vehicle very agitated. The non-UT subject demanded to know if the UT police department had jurisdiction to stop him. After the driver was calmed down, the police officer discovered, during the investigation that the subject had an outstanding outside agency warrant. The subject was taken into custody and transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 8-17-06, at 12:40 AM. Crime Prevention Tip of the Day: The countdown begins. Eight days until Moove-In and the beginning of the Fall 2006 semester. As time gets shorter and the "to do" list grows longer, now is a good time for a few reminders: Mark all of your property with your State issued driver's license number. Remember that the City of Austin is rated 8th in the world for reported bicycle thefts. Look into a two-lock locking system when securing your bicycle on campus. Take a few minutes and go on line and register your bicycle with UT Parking and Transportation : www.utexas.edu/parking/transportation/biking/bicycle_register.php New Feature: UTPD's Top 3: We have a three way tie for first place on the number of reported alarms responded to by UT police officers in the course of 24 hours. The buildings with the most police activity are: Animal Resource Center Ernest Cockerel Hall Mezes Hall All three buildings required police officers to respond to answer alarm calls due to staff members and authorized students not following proper alarm procedures. CAMPUS WIDE: Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, The University of Texas Police Department responded to 33 alarm calls, 2 medical emergency calls, 3 suspicious activity reports, and 15 unsecured door reports between 08-16-06 and 08-17-06. Contact UT Police at 471-4441 if you have any information regarding any of the above incidents or call 911 regarding suspicious persons, suspicious activities or crime. Your call may help solve or prevent a crime. Campus Watch comments should be directed to Officer Darrell Halstead at 512-232-9634 or Darrell.halstead@austin.utexas.edu . Prepared by DWH
