CAMPUS WATCH: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department patrol officers between Tuesday, 08-29-06 and Thursday, 08-31-06. EXPERIMENTAL SCIENCES BUILDING, 100 East 24th Street Theft: An Apple iMac computer was stolen from an unsecured 4th floor office. Loss value: $1,000.00. Occurred between: 8-28-06, at 8:40 AM and 8-29-06, 3:00 PM. PARKING LOT 108, 1500 Block Red River Suspicious Person: A UT staff member observed an unidentified subject walking through lot 108 looking into vehicles. During the investigation, the officer was unable to locate the subject. The subject was described as: black male, last seen wearing a grey shirt and black pants. Occurred on: 8-29-06, at 10:41 AM. 2600 University AVE. Leaving the Scene Collision / Failure to Stop and Render Aid: A black Isuzu Rodeo struck the rear bumper area of a red Chevy. The driver of the Isuzu drove off failing to render aid to the driver of the struck vehicle. The driver of the red Chevy was able to obtain the license plate number of the Isuzu as it drove away. During the investigation, the officer identified the driver of the Isuzu as a UT student. The officer left several messages for the student to contact UT police, all have gone unanswered. Loss value: unknown at this time. Occurred on: 8-29-06, at 5:30 PM. ERNEST COCKRELL JR., 301 East Dean Keeton Theft: A UT student put her purse on the ground next to her during class. When class was over, she left and forgot her purse. She returned 20 minutes later to retrieve it and her purse was gone. The purse contained her cell phone, wallet, check card, check book, and her glasses case. Loss value: $215. Occurred on: 8-30-06, between 1:50-2:10 PM SAN ANTONIO PARKING GARAGE, 2420 San Antonio ST Consumption Of Alcohol By A Minor: Two non UT subjects were observed standing against the exterior wall. One of the subjects was observed relieving himself on the wall. As the officer approached and spoke to the subjects, he detected the odor of alcohol on one of the subject’s breath. That subject was under the age of 21. He was issued a field release citation. Occurred on 8-31-06, at 2:00 AM 2200 Guadalupe Driving Under The Influence Of Alcohol By A Minor and Consumption of Alcohol By A Minor: An officer observed a blue Toyota run a red light. As the officer approached the vehicle he smelled a strong odor of alcohol. The driver, a non UT subject, had glassy and bloodshot eyes. The driver consented to perform the Standardized Field Sobriety Tests. The officer concluded that the driver was not intoxicated to the point of Driving While Intoxicated. However, he did have the odor of alcohol on his breath and was under the age of 21. Upon search incidental to arrest, 4 unopened beers were found in the vehicle. His driver’s license was confiscated and he was issued a field release citation. A sober friend was called to the scene, so the vehicle wouldn’t be impounded. The driver and the vehicle were released to the sober friend. Occurred on 8-31-06, at 2:16 AM. 21st Street Consumption Of Alcohol By A Minor: A UT student was observed slumped over, in a dark area, against a wall. As the officer approached, he smelled a strong odor of alcohol. The student was sweating profusely and had watery eyes. He was talking on his cell phone. The student stated that he was alright and explained that he didn’t get very good reception from his dorm room. As the student spoke to the officer, the officer detected a strong odor of alcohol coming from the student’s breath. The student was under the age of 21. He was issued a field release citation. Occurred on 8-31-06, at 2:16 AM. 2700 Guadalupe Public Intoxication: An officer observed two male subjects enter the crosswalk, crossing Guadalupe St. at 27th St., after the do not walk sign was showing. One of the subjects was staggering in the crosswalk as he attempted to cross Guadalupe St. The light turned green for on-coming traffic to proceed and the subject stopped and looked at the traffic and raised his hands in an aggressive manor. One of the vehicles honked and he presented the obscene gesture of the middle finger - directing it toward the car. The subject slowly walked to the sidewalk and continued northbound on Guadalupe St. The subject was stopped in the 2700 block of Guadalupe St. He had glassy, bloodshot eyes, with a moderate smell of alcohol on his breath, slurred speech and was swaying as he attempted to explain were he was going. He stated he was going to 45th St and Guadalupe St. via a bus. Capital Metro buses stop running at midnight. He had 20 more blocks to travel. The subject was taken into custody and transported and released to Central Booking. The second subject was not a danger to himself or others and was released at the scene. Occurred on 8-31-06, at 2:20 AM. CAMPUS WIDE: Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, The University of Texas Police Department responded to 89 alarm calls, 3 suspicious activity reports, 3 suspicious person reports, 4 medical emergency calls, 7 unsecured door reports, and 1 key assist between 08-29-06 and 08-31-06. UTPD generally schedules a Defensive Driving Class approximately once a month – based on need. The classes meet in the University Police Building, Room 1.318, located at 2201 Robert Dedman Dr (east of Memorial Stadium). The cost for the course is $25.00 (check or cash) payable on class date. If paying in cash, please bring the exact amount because change may not be available. You will also need to bring your driver's license.
