CAMPUS WATCH: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department patrol officers between Friday, 09-01-06 and Tuesday, 09-05-06. BELLMONT HALL, 2109 San Jacinto Suspicious Activity: A non-UT subject was observed pushing a disabled bicycle through campus. When stopped the subject had already discarded the bicycle. The subject informed the officers that he wanted to donate the bicycle to the university. During the investigation, the bicycle was located on the south side of Bellmont Hall. The bicycle had not been reported stolen and was impounded. Occurred on: 9-04-06, at 2:45 PM. COLORADO APPARTMENTS, 2501 Lake Austin Blvd. Harassment: A UT student received several unwanted and harassing telephone calls on his cellular telephone. The caller threatened to do bodily harm towards the student. Occurred on: 9-05-06, at 12:13 AM. DARRELL K. ROYAL- TEXAS MEMORIAL STADIUM, 405 East 23rd Street Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor: A UT student was observed carrying a clear plastic flask in his rear pants pocket. When the student was stopped, he denied having any alcohol in his possession. During the investigation, the officer detected a strong odor of alcohol on the subject's breath and learned that he was under the legal age of 21. The plastic flask was confiscated and the officer observed a very small amount of alcohol still inside the flask. The student received a field release citation for Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor and was ejected from the stadium. Prior to being ejected the student received a written referral from a Dean of Students official. Occurred on: 9-02-06, at 1:06 PM. DARRELL K. ROYAL- TEXAS MEMORIAL STADIUM, 405 East 23rd Street Possession of Alcohol by a Minor: A UT student was observed carrying a clear plastic flask in his right rear pants pocket. During the investigation it was determined that the flask contained alcohol. Officers also determined that the student was under the legal age of 21. The alcohol was impounded and the student was issued a field release citation for Possession of Alcohol by a Minor. Prior to being ejected from the stadium the student also received a written referral from an official from the Dean of Students Office. Occurred on: 9-02-06, at 11:25 AM. DARRELL K. ROYAL- TEXAS MEMORIAL STADIUM, 405 East 23rd Street Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor / Resisting Arrest: A UT student was observed staggering into the stadium after presenting his student ticket to the ticket taker. The officer noted that the subject's eyes were bloodshot and glassy and the student had a very strong odor of alcohol on his breath. The subject became very agitated and confrontational with the officer and began clenching his fists. The subject inquired, "What will happen if I don't sign?" After being informed that he would be arrested, the subject attempted to wrestle his way from the officer. The subject was taken into custody for Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor and Resisting Arrest. The subject was transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 9-02-06, at 11:24 AM. DARRELL K. ROYAL- TEXAS MEMORIAL STADIUM, 405 East 23rd Street Possession of Alcohol by a Minor: A UT student was observed attempting to conceal a 12-oz. can of beer in his right front pants pocket. When stopped the subject removed the can of beer and informed the officer, "I'm not old enough." The subject was issued a field release citation for Possession of Alcohol by a Minor. Prior to being ejected from the stadium the subject received a written referral from an official from the Dean of Students office. Occurred on: 9-02-06, at 11:05 AM. DARRELL K. ROYAL- TEXAS MEMORIAL STADIUM, 405 East 23rd Street Possession of Alcohol by a Minor: A UT student was observed attempting to carry in a bottle of soda. When told that he would need to discard the bottle and its contents the subject removed the cap and began gulping the liquid. The officer, standing 4 feet away, detected the odor of alcohol as the subject drank. The officer stopped the subject and identified him as being under the legal age of 21. The subject smiled at the officer and stated, "It's Everclear." The subject was issued a field release citation for Possession of Alcohol by a Minor. Prior to being ejected from the stadium the subject received a written referral from a Dean of Students official. Occurred on: 9-02-06, at 11:12 AM. GRADUATE SCHOOL OF BUSINESS, 100 East 21st Street Criminal Trespass: A known offender was observed sitting outside of GSB after having received 11 written criminal trespass warnings. The subject was taken into custody for Criminal Trespass and transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 9-01-06, at 10:30 PM. JESTER WEST DORMITORY, 201 East 21st Street Suspicious Activity: A UT student observed an unknown subject attempting to cut a self-locking cable lock securing a bicycle to a bike rack. The unknown subject was described as: white male, mid-40's, 5'-6", 180 pounds, with brown hair and a comb-over. The subject was last seen wearing white T-shirt, blue jeans, and carrying an overly stuffed black backpack. The responding officers were unable to locate the subject. No reported bicycle thefts reported from this area. Occurred on: 9-01-06, at 9:21 PM. JESTER WEST DORMITORY, 201 East 21st Street Theft: A pink Motorola cellular telephone was stolen after being left unattended. Loss value: $50.00. Occurred on: 9-02-06, between 3:30 AM and 4:43 AM. JESTER WEST DORMITORY, 201 East 21st Street Theft: A UT student reported the theft of a gold ring from his third floor dormitory room. The subject stated that he was cutting his hair when he heard his door open. The subject did not turn to look, thinking that it was a friend. When he finished cutting his hair he discovered his ring was stolen. Loss value: $1,500.00. Occurred on: 9-02-06, at 10:50 PM. Crime Prevention Tip: While many of us feel safe inside our rooms, apartments , and homes, thieves will look for an opportunity to commit a theft. Maintain security on your property by locking your doors, even if you are inside. LIVING LEARNING CENTER, 2610 Whitis Ave. Burglary of Coin-Operated Machine: A Coca-Cola machine was discovered broken into and an unknown amount of product and money was removed. Loss value: Unknown at this time. Discovered on: 9-04-06, at 5:08 PM. MAIN BUILDING, #1 South Mall Criminal Trespass: A UT staff member entered into a first floor women's restroom and discovered a shirtless white male crouched on the floor with a black belt in his hands. The staff member left the area and contacted the police department. The staff member provided the police department with a very accurate description of the subject in her brief encounter. Upon the arrival of the officers, the subject was located. During the investigation, the subject was argumentative with the officers and told them that he was only "hanging out." He then informed the officers that he was a Texas State student and would not attend UT. The subject was issued a written criminal trespass warning and escorted off campus. He was observed walking south. Occurred on: 9-01-06, at 10:52 AM. Crime Prevention Tip: The staff member in this case had just completed a training course offered by the UT police department entitled Workplace Violence. The staff member was able to remain calm and key in the subject's physical appearance and provide a very good description to the responding officers. MIKE MYERS STADIUM, 707 Clyde Littlefield Burglary of Coin-Operated Machine: A Tampax coin-operated machine was discovered pried open and the entire product was removed. Loss value: Unknown at this time. Discovered on: 9-04-06, at 4:11 PM. PARKING LOT 80, 1900 Red River Burglary of Motor Vehicle: The rear passenger window of a red Jeep was discovered broken out and several stereo wires appeared to have been cut. Officers were unable to make contact with the owner. Loss value: unknown at this time. Discovered on: 9-02-06, at 9:00 PM. PARKING LOT 104, 1900 Block North IH-35. Criminal Trespass Warning: A non-UT subject was observed walking through the parking lot looking into the passenger compartments of vehicles. During the investigation, the subject was extremely nervous and began grinding his teeth. The subject would not explain to the officer why he was looking into vehicles. The subject was issued a written criminal trespass warning and escorted from the area. Occurred on: 9-03-06, at 12:42 AM. PERRY-CASTENEDA LIBRARY, 101 East 21st Street Theft: A UT student reported the theft of her backpack, containing her wallet, Samsung cellular telephone, and various personal IDs, from a study desk located on the second floor, after leaving the property unattended for 5 minutes. Prior to the victim contacting the UT police, she learned from another student that a Hispanic female took her property. When the victim contacted the police, she observed an unknown subject matching the description leaving the library carrying the stolen backpack. The unknown female was described as: Hispanic female, 5'4"- 5'6", and shoulder-length brown hair. She was last seen wearing blue jeans, cut at the calf, and a polo type shirt. Loss value: $100.00. Occurred on: 9-01-06, between 5:15 PM and 5:20 PM. SARAH M. AND CHARLES E. SEAY PSYCHOLOGY CHILD DEVELOPMENT, AND FAMILY RELATIONS BLDG, 108 East Dean Keeton. Theft: A UT student reported the theft of her backpack, which contained several credit cards, personal ID cards, and a silver Samsung cellular telephone after she left her property unattended inside a second floor hallway. Loss value: $75.00. Occurred on: 9-01-06, between 1:00 PM and 1:40 PM. WOOLDRIDGE HALL, 600 West 24th Street Public Intoxication: A non-UT subject was discovered unconscious outside of the building. Officers detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the subject's breath. Austin EMS was notified and responded to the area to treat the subject. The subject responded and with slurred words informed the officer that he could not remember where he had been or where he was heading to. The subject pointed to his vehicle and inquired if the officer had parked his vehicle. The officer determined that the subject was intoxicated and posed a danger to himself. The subject was taken into custody for Public intoxication and transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 9-03-06, at 12:01 AM. 100 BLOCK EAST 21ST STREET Public Intoxication: A UT student was observed staggering, and shuffling his feet in order to maintain his balance as he navigated the perceived contours of the sidewalk. During the investigation, the officer detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the subject's breath and observed that he had glassy and bloodshot eyes. While standing face to face with the officer the subject swayed back and forth trying to maintain his balance. When asked to sit down the subject fell over. The officer asked the subject where he was going. The student repeatedly replied that he was coming from his friend's house. The officer determined that the subject was a danger to himself and took him into custody for Public Intoxication and transported him to Central Booking. Occurred on: 9-03-06, at 2:40 AM. 300 BLOCK WEST 24TH STREET Public intoxication: During a traffic stop, a UT police officer observed a subject slumped over at a bus stop. After correcting the driver's bad habit the officer investigated the subject at the bus stop. The subject was not responsive. When the officer turned him over the officer observed that the subject's face was blue. Austin EMS was contacted and treated the subject for alcohol poisoning and transported him to a local area hospital. Occurred on: 9-02-06, at 7:45 PM. 300 BLOCK WEST MARTIN LUTHER KING BLVD Driving While Intoxicated: A silver Lexus was observed traveling east on MLK well below the posted speed limit. A vehicle behind the Lexus was honking its horn to get the Lexus to drive the speed limit. When the officer attempted to stop the Lexus, the driver of the Lexus stopped in a traffic lane. The officer had to direct the driver to pull out of the traffic lane. Upon making contact with the driver, the officer detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the driver's breath. The officer requested from the driver her driver's license and proof of insurance. The driver handed over her license and then just stared at the officer with a blank expression. The officer administered a Standardized Field Sobriety test and the driver was unable to perform any of the tests. The driver explained that she had failed one of the tests because she was counting her heartbeats and not the seconds on a watch. The driver was taken into custody for Driving While Intoxicated. While being transported to Central Booking the driver requested that the officer allow her to perform several private tests to show that she was not intoxicated. Occurred on: 9-02-06, at 2:30 AM. 400 BLOCK WEST 27TH STREET Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol by a Minor: A black Honda was observed traveling without its headlamps on after dark. When the vehicle stopped seven blocks later, the officer detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the driver's breath. When the driver was asked for his driver's license, he handed the officer an expired driver's license. During the investigation, the officer observed that the driver had bloodshot and glassy eyes. The driver was asked to perform several Standardized Field Sobriety tests, which he was able to pass. Due to the fact that the driver was under the legal age of 21, had been consuming alcohol, and had been operating a motor vehicle, he was issued a field release citation for Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol by a Minor. His expired driver's license was confiscated. Occurred on: 9-02-06, at 3:40 AM 2013 COMAL Evading Arrest / Detention: A group of juveniles were discovered inside a restricted area posted with no trespassing signs. When the group saw the officer they ran from the area after being told to stop. One subject was attempting to hide in a backyard and was taken into detention. The other three juveniles were located hiding inside the bedroom and identified. During the investigation officers discovered a small amount of marijuana that had been left behind prior to the group attempting to evade. All were released to the custody of their parents. Occurred on: 9-03-06, at 4:36 PM. 2600 BLOCK NUECES Public Intoxication / Possession of Multiple Drivers' Licenses: A UT student was discovered slumped over a bus stop bench wearing only a white bed sheet. The subject woke up after a flashlight was shined into his face. The subject mumbled, "I don't need the police." The officer detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the subject's breath and observed that he had very bloodshot eyes. The subject handed the officer a valid Texas driver's license that identified the subject as being under the legal age of 21, but revealed a second valid driver's license issued to another person. During the investigation the subject was confused and did not know where he was. The subject was taken into custody for Public Intoxication and was transported to Central Booking. The valid driver's license issued to his brother was confiscated. Occurred on: 9-03-06, at 3:30 AM. CAMPUS WIDE: Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, The University of Texas Police Department responded to 96 alarm calls, 8 suspicious activity reports, 3 suspicious person reports, 3 medical emergency calls, 2 collision reports, and 7 unsecured door reports between 09-01-06 and 09-05-06.
