CAMPUS WATCH: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department patrol officers between Wednesday, 09-06-06 and Thursday, 09-07-06. PARKING LOT 115, 1600 East 20th Street Burglary of Motor Vehicle: A UT student discovered the passenger side window of his friend's Chevy Blazer broken out and his JVC CD / Tuner was missing from the dashboard. During the investigation, the officer contacted the owner of the vehicle and discovered additional property missing. A set of Sony Xplode speakers and an amplifier had also been taken. Loss value: $2,000.00. Occurred between: 8-27-06 and 9-06-06. PARLIN HALL, #2 South Mall Theft: An Apple Powerbook laptop computer was stolen from an unsecured first floor office. A UT staff member stated that he had left the office door ajar for 10 minutes with the laptop in plain view of anyone passing by the office. Loss value: $1,500.00. Occurred on: 9-06-06, between 2:10 PM and 2:20 PM. 100 BLOCK WEST 21ST STREET Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor: A UT student was observed staggering as he attempted to walk along the sidewalk. When the officer stopped the student, the officer detected a moderate odor of alcohol on the student's breath. The student admitted to the officer that he had been drinking at a fraternity house and was under the legal age of 21. During the investigation, the officer issued the student a field release citation for Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor. Occurred on: 9-07-06, at 2:55 AM. 200 BLOCK SAN JACINTO Attempted Theft / Criminal Trespass Warning: A non-UT subject was observed attempting to remove a brown leather purse from a metal box utilized by the Capital Metro bus driver. When the bus driver observed the theft she confronted the subject. The subject put the purse back into the metal box and denied trying to steal it. The subject remained on the bus. The driver notified her supervisor and requested an officer to meet the bus at it's next scheduled stop. The subject was taken into custody and transported to Central Booking. Once at Central Booking the officer issued the subject a written criminal trespass warning for the UT shuttles. Occurred on: 9-06-06, at 3:37 PM. 2300 BLOCK SAN JACINTO Driving While Intoxicated Open Alcohol Container / Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor (2 Counts): A red Ford SUV was observed disregarding a posted stop sign. The vehicle slowed down after passing the stop sign then sped up. When the vehicle was stopped, the officer detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the driver's breath even though she was chewing a stick of gum. The officer observed that the driver had glassy, watery, and bloodshot eyes. During the investigation, the officer administered several Standardized Field Sobriety tests. The driver was unable to perform these tests and was taken into custody for Driving While Intoxicated. The officer asked the two passengers to exit the vehicle since it was being impounded. While talking to the passengers, the officer detected the odor of alcohol on their breaths as well. The officer discovered that both passengers had been consuming alcohol and were both under the legal age of 21. Both subjects were issued field release citations for Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor. After the driver was taken into custody, the officer discovered three open bottles and one empty bottle of Twin Valley wine inside the vehicle. A fourth open bottle of wine was discovered inside the driver's purse. The DWI charge was enhanced. Occurred on: 9-07-06, at 12:55 AM. 2600 BLOCK WHITIS AVE Criminal Trespass: A non-UT subject entered a construction site and attempted to sell several power tools to the construction workers. The site supervisor told the subject several times to leave the property. The subject refused to leave and continued to try and sell the power tools. When the subject observed the police officer arriving, he remembered that he had other appointments and tried to leave - posthaste. The subject was taken into custody for Criminal Trespass and transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 9-06-06, at 4:17 PM. CAMPUS WIDE: Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, The University of Texas Police Department responded to 25 alarm calls, 2 suspicious activity reports,1 collision report, and 6 unsecured door reports between 09-06-06 and 09-07-06.
