CAMPUS WATCH: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department patrol officers between Thursday, 09-07-06 and Friday, 09-08-06. ART BUILDING, 2301 San Jacinto Burglary of Coin-Operated Machine: A Coca-Cola dispensing machine was discovered broken into. The dollar bill changer was discovered pushed in and the money was removed. Estimated loss: $500.00. Discovered on: 9-07-06, 12:09 PM. BELLMONT HALL, 405 East 23rd Street Burglary of Coin-Operated Machine: A Coca-Cola dispensing machine was discovered broken into. The metal faceplate had been removed exposing the dollar bill changer. Loss value: unknown at this time. Discovered on: 9-07-06, at 11:15 AM. PRATHER DORMITORY, 305 East 21st Street Criminal Trespass Warning: A UT student reported seeing evidence that an unauthorized unknown male subject had been using the women's restroom located on the 3rd floor for several days. The reporting person stated to the officer that as she was stepping out of the women's shower on 9-6-06 she observed a male subject inside the locked bathroom using the toilet. This area is secured and requires a push code to open the door. The student recognized the subject as the live-in boyfriend of a Resident Assistant. The officer located the male subject and identified him as a former UT student. During the investigation, the subject denied having been inside the women's restroom, or using the facilities. The subject was issued a written criminal trespass warning and escorted from the building. The officer contacted the RA and she denied that the subject was living with her or that she had given him the code to enter into a secured area. Occurred on: 9-06-06, at 5:57 PM. Crime Prevention Tip: A secure area is only as secure as its weakest link. In this case… the person who gave the access code to the unauthorized male subject IS the weakest link. When security codes are violated, compromised, or given out to unauthorized persons, it is recommended that the codes be changed quickly to prevent further unauthorized entry. UNION BUILDING, #4 West Mall Disorderly Conduct: A UT staff member observed an unknown subject inside a restricted area located on the 4th floor. When the unknown subject saw the staff member he raised a one-finger salute. When asked by the staff member if he was employed or enrolled at UT, the unknown subject said, "No." When the subject was told to leave the area, the unknown subject went into a tirade of verbalization that would send a salty seaman home crying. The unknown subject left the area prior to the arrival of the officer. The subject was described as: white male, 6'-05", thin build, stooped posture, and light brown hair. Subject was last seen wearing a dark colored shirt. Occurred on: 9-07-06, at 9:30 PM. WALTER WEBB HALL, 2500 Guadalupe Graffiti: White paint was used to write letters and words on the west side of the building. Loss value: $50.00. Discovered on: 9-08-06, at 4:15 AM. 100 BLOCK EAST 21ST STREET Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol by a Minor / Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor (3 Counts): A white Jeep was observed traveling without its headlamps on. When the vehicle was stopped the driver greeted the officer by handing over his driver's license. The driver had to be asked several times to provide proof of insurance. Once he comprehended the request, he handed his insurance card to the officer. During the investigation, the officer detected a moderate odor of alcohol inside the passenger compartment of the Jeep. The officer confirmed that the driver was under the legal age of 21, had been consuming alcohol, and was operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of the alcohol. The subject was issued a field release citation for Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol by a Minor. The officer confiscated the subject's driver's license. During the investigation, additional officers interviewed the passengers and discovered that all of the passengers were under the legal age of 21 and had also been consuming alcohol. All three passengers were issued field release citations for Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor. Occurred on: 9-08-06, at 3:00 AM. Crime Prevention Tip: As a group, all four students decided to go out for a "night on the town." As a group, they will continue to bond by: talking to the same judge, pooling their money together to pay their fines, and continuing to pool their money together in order to take a bus to do their community service. But they are not yet through with their bonding experiences… not just yet; they can walk across campus together to speak to the Dean of Students and attend the Drug and Alcohol class. 2400 BLOCK SAN JACINTO Driving While Intoxicated: A black Isuzu Trooper was observed traveling north in the 2100 – 2400 blocks of San Jacinto at a very high rate of speed. The vehicle would slow down at a controlled intersection but never stop. The vehicle was stopped and the officer detected a very strong odor of alcohol inside the passenger compartment of the Isuzu. The officer observed that the driver's eyes were bloodshot and glassy. During the investigation, the driver, identified as a UT student, informed the officer that he had only consumed only 3 beers, one at his friend's house, one at the Crown and Anchor, then two more at Maggie Mays, for a total of 3 beers. The officer administered the Standardized Field Sobriety tests. The driver was unable to pass several of the tests. These tests did not include his math pop test. The subject was taken into custody for Driving While Intoxicated and transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 9-08-06, at 2:23 AM. CAMPUS WIDE: Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, The University of Texas Police Department responded to 25 alarm calls, 3 suspicious activity reports, 2 medical emergency calls, and 5 unsecured door reports between 09-07-06 and 09-08-06.
