CAMPUS WATCH: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department patrol officers between Thursday, 09-14-06 and Monday, 09-18-06. Today the University of Texas Police Department delivered, for the second time this month, a pizza to a worthy staff member who observed a subject attempting to steal a bicycle at the Trinity Parking Garage. The staff member contact UTPD and the subject was taken into custody. Congratulations and a Job Well Done. BRACKENRIDGE APARTMENTS, 3305 Lake Austin Blvd. Harassment: A UT student reported receiving alarming and annoying telephone calls and emails from a non-UT subject that she came into contact with via the internet. The UT student stated that after meeting this subject he began showering her with unwanted affection. After telling the subject not to contact her again, the subject then began telling the student information about her family that she had never provided him with. During the investigation, the student stated that the non-UT subject had gone so far as to have contacted her friends from her myspace.com account, to obtain information about her. Reported on: 9-16-06, at 11:50 AM. Crime Prevention Tip: Networking sites are great…if you are looking to stalk, harass or steal someone's identity. Young adults, college students and the young at heart enjoy these sites in order to meet new and interesting people from the safety of their computers. Criminals enjoy these networking sites since many individuals, unwittingly, provide more personal information then they would normally. Your true identity and other personal information needs to be omitted. Recommend using an alias or screen name. CALHOUN HALL, #4 South Mall Theft: A black leather wallet, containing credit cards and various forms of personal ID was stolen from an unsecured 5th floor office. The staff member stated that she had left the wallet covered by her jacket while talking to several co-workers down the hall. Loss value: $25.00. Occurred on: 9-14-06, between 6:00 PM and 6:30 PM. E. P. SCHOCH, #6 East Mall Harassment: A UT staff member reported receiving several unwanted and annoying telephone calls from a non-UT subject. The staff member stated that the non-UT subject insisted on calling repeatedly to obtain the personal information of a female staff member who had assisted the caller earlier. The staff member informed the subject not to continually call or he would notify the police department. The staff member successfully trapped the incoming telephone number. Occurred on: 9-14-06, at 3:38 PM. PARKING LOT 104, 1900 Block North IH-35 Attempted Theft / Possession of Marijuana: A non-UT subject was observed standing near two secured bicycles which were secured to a street sign pole. As the officer approached the subject, the subject jumped onto a bicycle to leave the area. When stopped the subject stated that he had dropped his lighter near the bicycle that he was standing next to. During the investigation, the officer observed a cut cable lock on the bicycle that the subject was riding. The subject was taken into custody for Attempted Theft. During a search incidental to his arrest, the officer discovered a plastic baggie containing marijuana and a pair of bolt cutters inside the subject's backpack. The subject was transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 9-16-06, at 10:00 PM. REC SPORTS CENTER, 2001 San Jacinto Blvd. Theft: A silver Gateway laptop computer was stolen from an unsecured day use locker located inside the 1st floor men's locker room. During the investigation, a REC Sports staff member informed the officer that non-UT subject had been showering in the locker room at about the same time as the reported theft. Loss value: $1,000.00. Occurred on: 9-14-06, at 5:50 PM. UNIVERSITY TEACHING CENTER, 105 West 21st Street Criminal Trespass Warning: A non-UT subject was discovered asleep on a 3rd floor couch after the building had closed to the general public. During the investigation the subject was issued a written criminal trespass warning and escorted from the area. Occurred on: 9-16-06, at 10:40 PM. 100 BLOCK WEST 24TH STREET Criminal Trespass: A non-UT subject was observed stopping students and asking them for money. During the investigation, the subject expressed his true feeling towards police officers in general. The subject gave the officer a fictitious name. The officer soon discovered that the subject had received a prior criminal trespass warning in July 2006. The subject was taken into custody for Criminal Trespass and transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 9-16-06, at 4:06 PM. 2300 BLOCK SAN JACINTO Assist Outside Agency: A black Honda was observed failing to stop at an official traffic control device (stop sign). During the investigation, the officer discovered that the driver had two outstanding outside agency warrants for his arrest. The subject was taken into custody and transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 9-17-06, at 12:27 AM. 2300 BLOCK SAN ANTONIO Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor (2 Counts): A UT student was observed exiting a vehicle that was parked the wrong way on a one-way street. The student informed the officer that the owner was on his way to move his vehicle. During the investigation, the officer detected a moderate odor of alcohol on the subject's breath. When the owner of the vehicle arrived, the officer detected the odor of alcohol on the owner's breath as well. The officer determined that both subjects were under the legal age of 21. Both subjects were issued a field release citation for Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor. Occurred on: 9-14-06, at 10:35 PM. 2600 BLOCK SAN JACINTO Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor: A UT student was observed staggering and stumbling as she walked. The subject was being assisted by another UT student. During the investigation, the officer requested from both students their State issued driver's license. The stumbling student stated that she did not carry hers for fear of losing it. During the investigation, officer requested several time for the student to spell and re-spell her name since he had a hard time understanding her. The stumbling, staggering student handed the officer her driver's license and said, "See this is how it is spelled." The student was issued a field release citation for Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor after the officer determined that she was under the legal age of 21. Occurred on: 9-16-06, at 12:30 AM. 2600 BLOCK SAN JACINTO Public intoxication: A UT student was discovered passed out on the grassy area next to the Animal Resource Center. The subject was wearing a green leotard outfit with his underwear worn on the outside of his leotards. The subject wore red lip stick to simulate an oversized mouth. The subject had a very strong odor of alcohol on his breath. When the officer attempted to wake him up, the subject rolled over and put a finger to his lips and made a "Shhhhhhh" sound, then rolled back over. During the investigation, the subject appeared to be confused as to where he was or who he was. He explained to the officer that he was a crocodile. He claimed that he had been at the Delta House for a party. The officer observed that the subject was having difficulty standing and maintaining his balance, as well as having difficulty answering questions. The subject was taken into custody for Public Intoxication and transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 9-16-06, at 1:20 AM. 2700 BLOCK GUADALUPE Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol by a Minor / Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor (3 Counts): A UT student was stopped after failing to turn the headlamps of her BMW on. During the investigation, the officer detected a moderate odor of alcohol on her breath. The officer determined that the subject was under the legal age of 21. The subject was issued a field release citation for Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol by a Minor. During the investigation, officers began talking to the passengers inside the vehicle. Officers detected a moderate to strong odor of alcohol of the breaths of the passengers and determined all were under the legal age of 21. All of the passengers were issued field release citations for Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor. A sober friend had to be contacted in order to release the vehicle. Occurred on: 9-16-06, at 2:20 AM. CAMPUS WIDE: Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, The University of Texas Police Department responded to 132 alarm calls, 8 suspicious activity reports, 3 medical emergency calls, 3 collision reports, and 25 unsecured door reports between 09-14-06 and 09-18-06.
