CAMPUS WATCH: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department patrol officers between and Thursday, 09-28-06 and Monday, 10-02-06. BRACKENRIDGE DORMITORY, 207 East 21st Street Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor: A UT student was observed facing a brick wall and attempting to support herself with both hands to control her balance issues. The officer observed that a second subject was attempting to hold the subject upright so that she would not fall. During the investigation, the officer observed that the subject's lips were swollen and there was a small cut above her upper lip. The officer learned that the student had fallen into a bicycle rack causing the cut on the subject's upper lip. The second subject told the officer that her friend was intoxicated and had been going into and out of consciousness. Austin EMS was contacted and treated the student for alcohol poisoning at the scene. The student was transported to a local area for additional treatment. Due to the student's inability to understand the charges of Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor, the officer elected to have a summons sent to her. Occurred on: 10-01-06, at 2:50 AM. CHILD DEVELOPMENT CENTER, 2205 Comal Street Assist Outside Agency: A UT staff member reported that an unknown subject had on several occasions been seen standing outside the fence enclosure watching the children play. When the teachers walked towards him he would walk away. During the investigation, officers located a subject that matched the description working at a construction site down the street. The subject was positively identified by several staff members. During the investigation, the officer discovered that the subject had several outstanding outside agency warrants. The subject was taken into custody and transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 9-29-06, at 10:45 AM. Kudos to the staff at the Child Development Center for their quick actions and notification of the police department. DARRELL K. ROYAL- TEXAS MEMORIAL STADIUM, 405 East 23rd Street Public Intoxication: A UT student was reported making threatening statements to patrons attending the UT football game. During the investigation, the officer detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the student's breath and observed that his eyes were glassy and bloodshot. The officer determined that the student was a danger to himself and was taken into custody for Public Intoxication. The student was transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 9-30-06, at 5:45 PM. DARRELL K. ROYAL- TEXAS MEMORIAL STADIUM, 405 East 23rd Street Public Intoxication: A UT student was observed stumbling and swaying as she walked. The subject lost her balance and fell several times attempting to climb a short flight of stairs. During the investigation, the officer detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the subject's breath. The student attempted to pull away from the officer after being told that she was being taken into custody for Public Intoxication. The subject was transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 9-30-06, at 7:45 PM. DARRELL K. ROYAL- TEXAS MEMORIAL STADIUM, 405 East 23rd Street Possession of Alcohol by a Minor: A UT student was observed attempting to carry a concealed bottle in his waistband into the stadium. The subject was stopped and the bottle was removed from the waistband of his pants. The subject denied that the bottle was his and that a friend asked him to carry the bottle into the stadium. The bottle contained an unknown alcoholic beverage. The subject was issued a field release citation for Possession of Alcohol by a Minor. Prior to being ejected from the stadium the student received a written referral from a Dean of Students official. Occurred on: 9-30-06, at 5:35 PM. FACILITIES COMPLEX, 1201 East Dean Keeton Burglary of Motor Vehicle, (Criminal Episode): A UT staff member discovered the left vent window of a Ford truck broken out. The staff member discovered a miner's headlamp light had been stolen from the passenger compartment. During the investigation, five additional UT vehicles were discovered with either broken windows or the hasp locks pried off. Loss value: Unknown at this time. Discovered on 9-28-06, at 6:55 AM. KINSOLVING DORMITORY, 2605 Whitis Ave Harassment: A UT student reported receiving several harassing telephone calls from an unknown male caller. The harassing telephone calls started approx. 2 weeks ago, and after the last telephone call the student used the *57 feature and successfully trapped the telephone number of the suspect. Occurred on: 10-02-06, at 12:52 AM. PERRY CASTENADA LIBRARY, 101 East 21st Street Suspicious Activity: A non-UT subject was observed meandering around study tables looking at textbooks and other property that had been left unattended. A UT student observed the suspicious nature of the subject and contacted the police department. The subject was located as he attempted to leave the library. The subject stated that he was looking for a place to read quietly. Occurred on: 10-01-06, at 7:39 PM. PERRY CASTENADA LIBRARY, 101 East 21st Street Theft: A Sony Vaio laptop computer was stolen after being left unattended on the 5th floor while the former owner attended a study group. Loss value: $1,500.00 Occurred on 9-28-06, between 11:00 PM and 11:59 PM. SAN JACINTO RESIDENCE HALL, 309 EAST 21st Street Burglary of Habitation: A UT student awoke to discover an unknown male inside her unsecured dormitory room closet. The subject removed a red American Eagle shirt with a blue football on the front and a blue number eight on the back. The student stated that her room had been left unsecured, while she slept, for her roommate. Loss value: $30.00. Occurred on: 10-01-06, at 5:30 AM. SAN JACINTO RESIDENCE HALL, 309 EAST 21st Street Theft: A red and silver Ozone mountain bicycle was stolen from the bike rack located on the southwestern part of the building after being secured with a self-locking cable. Loss value: $150.00. Occurred between: 9-21-06, at 1:00 PM and 9-24-06, at 12:01 PM. SAN JACINTO RESIDENCE HALL, 309 EAST 21st Street Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor: Officer responded to the San Jacinto Residence Hall on a medical emergency. Upon arrival, the officer discovered a female passed out in front of a dormitory room and lying in a large pool of bodily fluids. Some of the fluids had dried onto her upper body and arms. The female was unresponsive and Austin EMS was notified and treated the subject for alcohol poisoning. The student was transported to a local area hospital. Occurred on: 9-30-06, at 6:55 AM SIMKINS DORMITORY, 2501 San Jacinto Theft: A black and red Mongoose mountain bicycle was stolen from the bike racks located on the west side of the building after being secured with a self-locking cable lock. Loss value: $150.00. Occurred on: 9-28-06, between 4:30 PM and 9:45 PM. UNION BUILDING, #4 West Mall Theft / Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor: A UT student was observed walking towards the intersection of 24th Street and Guadalupe carrying two pairs of bowling shoes, which were marked UT Union Underground. The student informed the officer that he had gotten the bowling shoes from the UT Underground and that he was on his way home. During the investigation, the officer detected a moderate odor of alcohol on the subject's breath and determined that the student was under the legal age of 21. The manager for the Underground was contacted and he stated that the shoes had been taken without his effective consent. The student was taken into custody and transported to Central Booking. At Central Booking the student was issued a field release citation for Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor. Loss value: $30.00 (Recovered). Occurred on : 9-30-06, at 2:45 AM. Crime Prevention Tip: The shoes in this case had not been reported stolen…yet. The shoes were clearly marked with the owner's identification. The officer was able to contact the owner and recover the property that had been stolen and return it to the rightful owner. This is one reason why it is recommended that you engrave your property with your State issued driver's license number. 800 BLOCK MARTIN LUTHER KING BLVD Driving While Intoxicated (Felony) / Possession of a Controlled Substance: A red GMC truck was observed driving to the left of center, then the driver would over correct and swerve into another lane of traffic. When the vehicle was stopped the officer detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the driver's breath. The driver submitted to the Standardized Field Sobriety tests. After several failed attempts the driver was unable to pass any of the tests and was taken into custody for Driving While Intoxicated. During the investigation, the officer located a prescription bottle of Diazepam that was prescribed to someone other than the driver. The officer learned that the driver had two prior convictions for DWI and was charged with a higher offence. Occurred on: 10-01-06, at 4:00 AM. 2100 BLOCK RED RIVER Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol by a Minor / Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor (3 Counts): Officers observed a grey Toyota traveling north on Red River. The officer observed a subject hanging out of the rear passenger window providing a liquid trail marker to commemorate their passing through the area. During the investigation, the officer detected a very strong odor of alcohol inside the vehicle along with the pungent aroma of vomit. The officer detected a moderate odor of alcohol on the breath of the driver and observed that the driver's eyes were bloodshot and watery. The officer administered the Standardized Field Sobriety tests to the driver. After passing the tests, the driver was issued a field release citation for Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol by a Minor and a temporary driving permit since his driver's license was confiscated after the officer realized that the driver was under the legal age of 21. The driver began yelling at the officer that he had done nothing wrong that his friends were drunk and now his civil rights were being violated. During the investigation, the officer continued to detect the odor of alcohol inside the vehicle and determined that the three passengers were all under the legal age and had been consuming alcohol. All three passengers were issued a field release citation for Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor. Prior to the vehicle being towed a nearly empty one-liter bottle of Jagermeister was discovered inside the passenger compartment. The bottle was collected as evidence. Occurred on: 10-01-06, at 2:00 AM. 2300 BLOCK GUADALUPE Public Intoxication: A non-UT subject was discovered passed out next to a low retaining wall. The officer detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the subject's breath as he lay sleeping. After several failed attempts to wake the subject up, the officer rubbed the subject's sternum and the subject was quick to join the waking world. The officer asked the subject where he was, and the subject informed the officer that he had been abandoned in Dallas, Texas by his friends earlier in the evening. The subject was talkative, but his speech was very slurred and the officer had a difficult time understanding him. When the officer informed the subject that he was at UT Austin, the subject informed the officer that he had no clue how he had gotten there. The subject was taken into custody for Public Intoxication and transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 10-01-06, at 2:21 AM. 2400 BLOCK SAN JACINTO Assist Outside Agency: A vehicle was observed running a stop sign at the intersection of san Jacinto and 23rd Street. During the traffic investigation, the officer discovered that the driver had several outstanding outside agency warrants for Speeding and Failure to Appear. The subject was taken into custody and transported to Central Booking. In addition to other law enforcement action taken, the subject was issued a field release citation for Disregarding a Stop Sign. Occurred on: 10-01-06, at 11:55 AM. 3100 BLOCK RED RIVER Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor: A UT student was observed staggering, swaying and having a very difficult time maintaining her balance while navigating the contoured differences between the sidewalk and the grass lawns. The subject was crying hysterically and talking to an unknown subject while on her cellular telephone. When the student saw the police officer she began yelling at the officer to stay away. She stated that her boyfriend was breaking up with her and she might not get back with him if he found out the police had stopped her. During the investigation, the officer discovered that the subject was under the legal age of 21, and had been consuming alcohol. The student received a field release citation for the Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor. Occurred on: 10-01-06, at 3:55 AM. CAMPUS WIDE: Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, The University of Texas Police Department responded to 149 alarm calls, 15 suspicious activity reports, 7 reported collisions, 11 medical emergency calls, and 22 unsecured door reports between 09-28-06 and 10-02-06.
