CAMPUS WATCH: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department patrol officers between Monday, 10-02-06 and Tuesday, 10-03-06. DARRELL K. ROYAL- TEXAS MEMORIAL STADIUM, 405 East 23rd Street Possession of Alcohol by a Minor: A UT student was observed entering into the stadium through Gate 25 with an aluminum can in his front pocket. The student was asked to remove the can from his pocket. The officer observed that the can was an unopened can of Bud Lite beer. During the investigation, the officer determined that the student was under the legal age of 21. The student was issued a field release citation for Possession of Alcohol by a Minor. Prior to being ejected from the stadium, the student received a written referral from a Dean of Students official JESTER WEST DORMITORY, 201 East 21st Street Theft: An Apple laptop computer, iPod, and two battery chargers were stolen from a first floor dormitory room after three UT students had been left unattended inside the room. Loss value: $1450.00. Occurred on 9-18-06, between 8:00 PM and 8:30 PM. PARKING LOT 104, 1900 Block North IH-35 Theft: A non-UT subject was observed using a metal pipe to hit a U-shaped lock that was securing a bicycle to a pole. The officer watched the subject hit the lock several times, walk around the bicycle, sit down, and then resume hitting the lock with the metal pipe. This continued for 10 minutes. The officer stopped the subject. The subject stated that he had lost the key to his lock and was trying to break the lock off. During the investigation, the officer observed that the bicycle was registered with the University of Texas Parking and Transportation Services. The officer discovered that the subject attempting to remove the U-shaped lock was not the true owner of the bicycle. The rightful owner was contacted and was able to describe the bicycle, bike lock and the location where her property had been left. She was also able to provide additional information about missing equipment. The subject was taken into custody for Theft and transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 9-29-06, at 8:05 PM. PARKING LOT 116, 2900 Block North IH-35 Theft: A UT staff member became concerned and notified the UT Police Department that a subject had been sitting inside a vehicle for over two hours. Upon arrival, UT police officers observed a subject sitting inside a silver Subaru that matched the description given by the UT staff member. During the investigation, the driver stated that the vehicle belonged to his cousin, and that she had left him there with the car. Officer soon discovered that the vehicle had been reported stolen to the Austin Police Department on 9-26-06. The subject was taken into custody for Theft and transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 10-02-06, at 9:54 AM. 1100 BLOCK EAST MARTIN LUTHER KING BLVD. Criminal Trespass Warning: A non-UT subject was observed wandering through several parking lots. When the subject saw a marked police vehicle he abruptly turned and attempted to leave the area. The subject was stopped a short distance away. The non-UT subject was sweating heavily and appeared to be rigid and tense. The subject could not explain why he had been wandering through the parking lots. During the investigation, the subject was issued a written criminal trespass warning and escorted from the area. Occurred on: 10-03-06, at 3:34 AM. Crime Prevention Tip: Now I am just guessing, but maybe he saw the blue light on top of the Police Help Call box and thought there was a K-Mart blue light special in one of the vehicles. The parking lots around the Baseball Stadium make attractive targets for auto burglars. They simply walk or drive into the lots, look into the parked cars and decide what property, your property, they want to take. Never use your vehicle as a private storage unit. Keep all of your property hidden from view. CAMPUS WIDE: Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, The University of Texas Police Department responded to 40 alarm calls, 3 suspicious activity reports, 1 medical emergency call, and 5 unsecured door reports between 10-02-06 and 10-03-06. Contact UT Police at 471-4441 if you have any information regarding any of the above incidents or call 911 regarding suspicious persons, suspicious activities or crime. Your call may help solve or prevent a crime. Campus Watch comments should be directed to Officer Darrell Halstead at 512-232-9634 or Darrell.halstead@austin.utexas.edu . Prepared by DWH
