CAMPUS WATCH: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department patrol officers between Wednesday, 10-04-06 and Thursday, 10-05-06. JESTER WEST DORMITORY, 210 East 21st Street Harassment: A UT student reported receiving unwanted and frightening instant messages from an unknown subject. The messages contained her personal information, information about her family, as well as her UT information. Occurred on: 10-05-06, at 1:15 AM. Crime Prevention Tip: Electronic communications are fast and convenient. But for whom? In the blink of an eye an unknown person can have access to your personal information if you do not take the time to safe guard it. There are a number of different search engines that an unscrupulous individual can use to obtain basic information about an individual. By simply restricting your personal information such as like your school registration information and business transactions will eliminate many of the basic avenues in obtaining information about a person. PARKING LOT 80, 1900 Block Red River Terrorist Threat: A UT staff member discovered a suspicious hand written note under the windshield wiper of a vehicle legally parked in the lot. The author of the note was upset that the parking space had been occupied by another vehicle. The unknown author threatened to commit several criminal acts if the owner of the vehicle ever parked his vehicle in that exact spot again. The owner of the vehicle found the note threatening. Occurred on: 10-04-06, at 11:00 AM. 1900 BLOCK PEARL STREET Driving While Intoxicated: A grey Dodge truck was observed swerving back and forth in a well marked traffic lane and committing several traffic violations. During the investigation, the officer detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the driver's breath. The officer asked the driver if he would submit to the Standardized Field Sobriety tests, as the driver was exiting his vehicle he asked the officer if he was serious. The driver informed the officer that he was just getting off work at a local bar and was not allowed to drink at his job. The officer explained to the driver why he was being asked to perform the tests and yes he was serious. The officer administered the Standardized Field Sobriety tests and the driver was unable to pass any of the given tests. The subject was taken into custody for Driving While Intoxicated and transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 10-05-06, at 3:19 AM. 2000 BLOCK SPEEDWAY Criminal Mischief: A traffic control pylon and the cable wire used to control traffic was discovered laying on the ground after being run over. Loss value: $100.00. Occurred on: 10-05-06, between 1;30 AM and 2:37 PM. CAMPUS WIDE: Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, The University of Texas Police Department responded to 41 alarm calls, 3 suspicious activity reports, and 8 unsecured door reports between 10-04-06 and 10-05-06.
