CAMPUS WATCH: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department patrol officers between Thursday, 10-12-06 and Friday, 10-13-06. ASHBELL SMITH, 201 West 7th Street Assist Outside Agency: A non-UT subject was discovered unconscious on the south plaza. The subject was unresponsive to voice commands and several sternum rubs. The subject was transported to a local area hospital by Austin EMS. During the investigation, the officer discovered that the subject had an outstanding outside agency warrant. At the time that the subject was being released from the hospital, the subject was taken into custody for the outstanding warrant and transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 10-12-06, at 11:45 PM. Transported to Central Booking: 10-13-06, 5:36 AM. JESTER EAST DORMITORY, 203 East 21st Street Theft: A leather bi-fold wallet containing $100.00 in cash was stolen from a 3rd floor study lounge after being left unattended. Loss value: $120.00. Occurred on: 10-12-06, at 5:08 PM. JESTER WEST DORMITORY, 201 East 21st Street Suspicious Activity: A UT police officer observed 6 UT students huddled around a small fire. During the investigation the students informed the officer that they had found the fire and were gathering around it to keep warm. All 6 students were informed that the ambient temperature was warmer inside Jester Dormitory then outside on the Sports Court. Occurred on: 10-13-06, at 3:39 AM. 100 BLOCK WEST 21st STREET Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol by a Minor / Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor (3 Counts): A purple Cooper Mini was observed traveling west on 21st Street. A passenger inside the vehicle was overheard, by the officer, cursing at the pedestrians walking along the sidewalks. The vehicle was stopped and the officer detected a moderate odor of alcohol on the driver's breath. During the investigation, the officer discovered that the driver, identified as a UT student, was under the legal age of 21. The officer administered the Standardized Field Sobriety tests to the driver and was unable to detect any clues for intoxication or impairment. The driver was issued a field release citation for Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol by a Minor. The vehicle was impounded. The investigation continued with the passengers inside the vehicle. As the passengers exited the vehicle, officers detected the odor of alcohol on the breaths of all three passengers. The officer learned that all of the passengers were under the legal age of 21 and had been consuming alcohol. The passengers were all issued field release citations for Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor. Occurred on: 10-13-06, at 2:00 AM. 100 BLOCK WEST 21st STREET Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor (2 Counts): A UT student was observed attempting to support another UT student, both students were displaying balance and coordination issues. During the investigation, the officer determined that both students were under the legal age of 21 and had been consuming alcohol. Both students were issued field release citations and released. Occurred on: 10-13-06, at 1:50 AM. 300 BLOCK WEST 24th STREET Driving While Intoxicated: A silver Saturn was observed exceeding the posted speed limit. After the vehicle was stopped, the officer detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the driver's breath. The officer observed that the driver's eyes were bloodshot, watery and glassy. The driver, identified as a UT student, admitted to the officer that he had been at a local watering hole and had consumed only 2 beers. The officer administered the Standardized Field Sobriety tests to the driver. The officer determined that the driver was intoxicated after the driver exhibited many clues during the tests. The driver was taken into custody for Driving While Intoxicated and transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 10-13-06, at 2:50 AM. 2300 BLOCK GUADALUPE Public intoxication: A UT student was observed pulling on the front door of a local business that was closed. When the officer stopped the subject, the officer detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the subject's breath. When asked, the subject was unsure what he was doing or why he was pulling on the door of a business that was closed. During the investigation, the officer observed that the subject's eyes were bloodshot and watery. The subject appeared to be confused. The subject was taken into custody for Public Intoxication and transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 10-13-06, at 1:30 AM. 2600 BLOCK NUECES Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor: A UT student was observed staggering as she was walking along the sidewalk. During the investigation, the officer detected a moderate odor of alcohol on the subject's breath. The officer discovered that the student was under the legal age of 21 and had been consuming alcohol. The officer issued the student a field release citation for the Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor. Occurred on: 10-13-06, at 4:00 AM. Crime Prevention Tip of the Day: For many, today (Friday the 13th) is a very superstitious day. For many of the UT students in today's issue of the Campus Watch, Friday the 13th became a day for legal issues. For some, Friday the 13th was the day that they lost their driving privileges and will soon be introduced to public transportation. CAMPUS WIDE: Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, The University of Texas Police Department responded to 32 alarm calls, 2 medical calls, 1 collision report, 3 suspicious activity reports, and 5 unsecured door reports between 10-04-06 and 10-12-06.
