CAMPUS WATCH: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department patrol officers between Wednesday 10-18-06 and Friday 10-20-06. ANIMAL RESOURCE CENTER, 2701 Speedway Public Intoxication: A UT student was reported attempting to break out windows at ARC. When officers arrived, the subject was observed falling down as he attempted to walk up a small flight of stairs. During the investigation, the officer detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the subject's breath and observed that his eyes were watery and bloodshot. The subject was very talkative, but he talked with slurred and mumbled words. The subject was taken into custody and transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 10-20-06, at 1:18 AM. BELLMONT HALL, 2109 San Jacinto Assault by Contact: A UT staff member reported being assaulted by a UT student after placing a tire immobilizer when the owner of the vehicle arrived and brushed up against him. During the investigation the subject was located walking towards the Trinity Garage to pay for his unpaid parking tickets. The victim did not wish to file charges. Occurred on: 10-13-06, at 11:00 AM. BRACKENRIDGE APARTMENTS, 3501 Lake Austin Blvd Suspicious Person: A UT student reported being approached by an unknown subject while doing her laundry. The subject asked her for money and cigarettes. When told "no" the subject left the area. The student soon learned that her daughter had also seen the subject several hours earlier. During the investigation, officers located a subject matching the subject's description a short distance from the apartment complex. The subject informed the officers that he was trying to get back home and needed money. The subject was issued a written criminal trespass warning. The subject was informed that it was easier to take a bus home and not ask residence for money. Occurred on: 10-18-06, 8:55 PM COLLEGE OF BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION, 2110 Speedway Theft: A purse containing $427.00 in cash and a tube of lip gloss was stolen from a 3rd floor reading room after being left unattended while the former owner was away talking to a friend. Loss value: $447.00. Occurred: 10-03-06, between 7:00 PM and 7:10 PM. Reported on 10-18-06. GEOLOGY BUILDING, # 10 East Mall Theft: A blue GMC bicycle was stolen from the bike racks located on the north side of the building after the former owner secured the front tire of the bicycle to the bike rack with a U-shaped lock. During the investigation, the officer observed that the front tire of the bicycle was still secured to the bike rack. Loss value: $50.00. Occurred on: 10-18-06, between 7:00 PM and 9:00 PM. JESTER DORMITORY, 201 East 21st Street Harassment: A UT student reported receiving several threatening voice and text messages from another UT student. Occurred on: between 10-17-06, and 10-18-06. JESTER DORMITORY, 201 East 21st Street Fraud: A UT student reported losing her UT ID after the card fell out of her pocket. Several days later the student discovered that $121.00 in unauthorized charges had been made on her "Bevo Bucks" account. Loss value: $121.00. Occurred: between 10-12-06, and 10-18-06 100 BLOCK WEST 21ST STREET Public Intoxication: A UT student was observed having challenges maintaining his balance as he navigated the contours of the sidewalk. The subject was observed turning over newspaper stands as he walked past them. During the investigation, the subject explained to the officer that he had tripped over the newspaper rack that was why it was lying on the ground. The officer detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the subject's breath. The officer also observed, aside from balance issues, the subject had watery and bloodshot eyes. The subject was taken into custody for Public Intoxication and transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 10-20-06, at 2:27 AM. 2400 BLOCK GUADALUPE Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor: A UT student was observed slumped over a retaining wall located on the north side of the Texas Union Building. During the investigation, The officer detected a moderate odor of alcohol on the subject's breath and discovered that the subject was under the legal age of 21. The subject was issued a field release citation for Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor. As the investigation continued, it was noted that the subject had received an identical citation on 10-14-06 during the Texas football game. Crime Prevention Tip: Many of the crime prevention tips that address underage drinking only look at first time offenders. This is the first repeat offender this year. It is sad that in less than 6 days he received a second citation for the same violation. Since there will be two separate hearings, if convicted the judge will double the fines, hours of community service and extend the hours for the alcohol awareness program. CAMPUS WIDE: Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, The University of Texas Police Department responded to 67 alarm calls, 7 medical calls, 4 collision reports, 7 suspicious activity reports, and 18 unsecured door reports between 10-018-06 and 10-20-06.
