CAMPUS WATCH: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department patrol officers between Monday, 10-23-06 and Tuesday, 10-24-06. ASHBELL SMITH HALL, 201 West 7th Street Public intoxication / Assist Outside Agency: A non-UT subject was discovered passed out in the bushes. During the investigation, the officer detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the subject's breath and observed that his eyes were bloodshot and watery. The subject's speech was very slurred and very hard to understand. The officer soon discovered that the subject had 3 outstanding outside agency warrants. The subject was taken into custody for Public Intoxication and the 3 warrants. The subject was transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 10-24-06, at 11:03 PM. JESTER WEST DORMITORY, 201 East 21st Street Possession of Drug Paraphernalia: A UT staff member reported the odor of burning marijuana coming from a first floor dormitory room. During the investigation, the officer detected a very strong odor of burning marijuana as he entered the hallway. Officers knocked on the door of the residence and both officers were invited into the room. Officers observed a toilet paper roller that was stuffed with dryer sheets lying next to the resident. The roller was confiscated and tested positive for marijuana residue. The subject was issued a field release citation for Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Occurred on: 10-24-06, at 1:27 AM. MARY GEARING HALL, 200 West 24th Street Criminal Mischief: A UT staff member discovered the handicapped assist button had been pried from its mounting bracket. Loss value: $40.00. Discovered: 10-24-06, at 12:20 AM. MOORE-HILL DORMITORY, 214 East 21st Street Harassment: An alarming drawing was placed on the exterior door to a fourth floor dormitory room. Both residences found the drawing alarming and obscene. Discovered on: 10-24-06, at 1:02 AM. 100 BLOCK EAST 24th STREET Theft: An orange colored Trek bicycle was stolen from the bike racks located on the east side of Welch Hall after being secured with a U-shaped lock. During the investigation, the U-shaped lock was discovered near the bike racks. Loss value: $700.00. Occurred on: 10-20-06, between 3:00 PM and 3:55 PM. 200 BLOCK MARTIN LUTHER KING BLVD Suspicious Activity: An unknown subject approached a UT staff member and began asking her for money. The staff member stated that the subject then began following her as she walked towards the Trinity Parking garage. Once the staff member entered the garage area she notified the UT Police Department. The subject was described as: black male, late 20's to early 30's. The subject was last seen wearing a grey sweatshirt and a necklace. Occurred on: 10-24-06 at 1:01 AM. 300 BLOCK INNER CAMPUS DRIVE Theft: A Apple iBook laptop computer was stolen from an outdoor movie festival after being left unattended while the former owner was obtaining freebies during the festival. Loss value: $1,000.00. Occurred on: 10-23-06 at 11:25 PM. Crime Prevention Tip: A free computer for a free T-shirt...humm, sounds like a reasonable trade. CAMPUS WIDE: Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, The University of Texas Police Department responded to 23 alarm calls, 2 medical calls, 3 suspicious activity reports, and 6 unsecured door reports between 10-23-06 and 10-24-06.
