CAMPUS WATCH: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department patrol officers between Wednesday, 10-25-06 and Thursday, 10-26-06. EXPERIMENTAL SCIENCE BUILDING, 100 East 24th Street Criminal Mischief: A window was discovered broken inside a first floor classroom. Loss value: $40.00. Discovered on: 10-25-06 at 11:30 PM. GRADUATE SCHOOL OF BUSINESS, 100 West 21st Street Burglary: A Hewlett Packard laptop computer was stolen from a secured locker located on the 3rd floor. The victim was unaware of the theft until the computer case was discovered inside a 3rd floor women's restroom stall. Loss value: $1,200.00. Occurred on: 10-25-06, between 5:30 PM and 6:09 PM. GREGORY GYM, 2101 Speedway Assault: Two UT students got into an argument about how hard the UT football team works out. One subject told the other that she needed to keep her comments to herself. Both UT students began shoving each other back and forth. Occurred on: 10-25-06, 2:20 PM. PERRRY-CASTANEDA LIBRARY, 101 East 21st Street Harassment: A UT staff member reported receiving an annoying and threatening telephone call from a non-UT subject. Occurred on: 10-25-06, at 12:09 PM. SAN JACINTO RESIDENCE HALL, 309 East 21st Street Suspicious Activity: A UT student reported the odor of burning marijuana being emitted from the ventilating system into her second floor dormitory room. The officer was unable to track down the source of the burning marijuana. Occurred on: 10-25-06, at 8:39 PM. 100 BLOCK WEST 21st STREET Leaving the Scene Collision: Two UT students witnessed a grey Ford Mustang side swipe a green Oldsmobile that was legally parked and unattended. The driver of the Ford Mustang then drove off. Loss value: Unknown at this time. Occurred on: 10-25-06, at 9:35 PM. 1900 BLOCK SAN JACINTO Assist Outside Agency: A non-UT subject was observed pushing a child's bicycle. When stopped, the subject informed the officer that he was borrowing the bike from a friend. During the investigation, the officer discovered that the subject had an outstanding outside agency warrant for Failure To Appear. The subject was taken into custody and transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 10-25-06, at 5:27 PM. 2400 SAN ANTONIO STREET Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor (2 Counts): A UT student was observed staggering back and forth as he was negotiating the hidden contours of a straight sidewalk. During the investigation, the officer detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the subject's breath and was under the legal age of 21. The officer allowed the subject to use one of his life lines to contact a sober friend. The officer over heard a subject yelling the name of the subject that he was detaining and observed a second subject staggering towards him having the same navigational challenges as the first subject. The officer soon learned that the second subject was the “sober” friend that the first subject had called. As the investigation continued, the officer learned that the second UT student was also under the legal age of 21 and had been consuming alcohol at a fraternity. Both students were issued field release citation for Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor. A third sober person was contacted and both students were released to that individual. Occurred on: 10-26-06, at 2:20 PM. 2600 BLOCK WHITIS AVE Public Intoxication: A UT student was observed staggering back and forth while heading towards an intersection. The subject stopped and then slumped over a newspaper stand. During the investigation, the officer detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the subject's breath and discovered that he was under the legal age of 21. The subject did not know where he was, where he had been, or what the correct day was. The subject was taken into custody for Public intoxication. While being placed into the patrol vehicle, the subject asked the officer to "squeeze in" with him. The subject was transported to Central Booking, alone in the back seat. Occurred on: 10-26-06, 2:44 AM CAMPUS WIDE: Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, The University of Texas Police Department responded to 66 alarm calls, 2 medical calls, 1 collision report, and 6 unsecured door reports between 10-25-06 and 10-26-06. UTPD generally schedules a Defensive Driving Class approximately once a month – based on need. The classes meet in the University Police Building, Room 1.318, located at 2201 Robert Dedman Dr (east of Memorial Stadium). The cost for the course is $25.00 (check or cash) payable on class date. If paying in cash, please bring the exact amount because change may not be available. You will also need to bring your driver's license.
