CAMPUS WATCH: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department patrol officers between Friday, 10-27-06 and Wednesday, 11-01-06. BLANTON MUSEUM OF ART, CONSTRUCTION SITE, 1900 Speedway Burglary: A non-UT subject discovered the door to the construction trailer open. Upon entry into the trailer the subject discovered a number of items missing. Loss value: undetermined at this time. Discovered: 10-31-06, at 6:15 AM. BRAZOS PARKING GARAGE, 200 East Martin Luther King Blvd. Possession of Drug Paraphernalia: Five UT students were observed crouched down inside an old stairwell. When the subjects were asked by the officer to come out of the stairwell, the officer observed a ceramic pipe lying on the ground. During the investigation, the officer detected the odor of marijuana inside the pipe and observed marijuana ash in the bowl of the pipe. One UT student claimed ownership of the pipe and was charged with Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Occurred on: 10-28-06, at 2:40 AM. BRAZOS PARKING GARAGE, 200 East Martin Luther King Blvd. Criminal Mischief: A UT student discovered that an unknown subject had used a tool to carve scratches into the driver’s side of her vehicle. Loss value: unknown at this time. Discovered on: 10-30-06, at 4:04 PM. BRAZOS PARKING GARAGE, 200 East Martin Luther King Blvd. Burglary of Motor Vehicle: The vent window of a 2002 Toyota was discovered broken out. During the investigation, it was determined that a set of golf clubs, $55.00 in cash, and a pair of golf shoes were stolen. All of the stolen items were left in plain view inside the vehicle. Loss value: $360.00. Occurred: between 10-30-06, at 1:30 AM and 10-31-06, at 6:00 PM. CHEMICAL PETROLEUM ENGINEERING BUILDING, 200 East Dean Keeton Theft: U. S. currency was stolen from two unsecured cash boxes located inside a second floor student office. The cash box was stored inside an unsecured desk. Loss value: $45.00. Occurred: between 10-26-06, at 9:00 PM and 10-27-06, at 9:45 AM. DARRELL K. ROYAL- TEXAS MEMORIAL STADIUM, 405 East 23rd Street Theft: An EZ-GO golf cart with Lone Star Cart logo and two white seats was stolen from underneath the stadium. Loss value: $1,500.00. Occurred: between 10-27-06, at 5:15 Pm and 10-28-06, at 6:00 AM. ERNEST COCKREL HALL, 301 East Dean Keeton Theft: A UT student reported the theft of US currency from a secured second floor office. The cash was taken from an unsecured cash box that had been placed inside a desk. Loss value: $10.00. Occurred: between 10-26-06 and 10-27-06. Crime Prevention Tip: This is the first reported theft involving funds stolen from a student organization. Earlier this semester I met with many different student groups. During these meetings there were certain key points addressed: Regain key control by having your areas re-keyed and limit the number of keys issued out. Purchase a small money safe and do not store money in only a lock box. FRANK ERWIN CENTER, 1701 Red River Criminal Trespass Warning: A non-UT subject contacted a UT staff member to see if he could assist with the children's event being held at the FEC. When told “No”, the subject showed up to the event. When the staff member observed the subject outside the event she notified the police department. During the investigation, the subject began swearing at the officer. The subject was issued a written criminal trespass warning and escorted from the area. Occurred on: 10-29-06, at 1:40 PM. GREGORY GYM, 2101 Speedway Theft: A black and red backpack containing $125.00 in cash, a Motorola cellular camera telephone, and Canon digital camera were stolen after being left unattended at the base of the Gregory Gym steps. The former owner was carving pumpkins with friends. Loss value: $760.00. Occurred on: 10-30-06, between 9:30 PM and 10:45 PM. GREGORY GYM, 2101 Speedway Theft: A black Motorola cellular telephone was stolen from the third floor basketball courts. The former owner stated that he had placed the telephone down onto the gym floor while playing basketball. Loss value: $50.00. Occurred on: 10-30-06, between 6:00 PM and 6:45 PM. GREGORY GYM, 2101 Speedway Theft: A black Cingular cellular telephone was stolen from the third floor basketball courts after the former owner set the cellular telephone down on top of a bench while she played volleyball. While playing volleyball the former owner observed a subject sitting next to her property. The unknown subject was described as: black male, mid-20s, and 5’-8”. The subject was last seen wearing black shorts and a black shirt. Loss value: $50.00. Occurred on: 10-29-06, between 5:30 PM and 5:50 PM. JESTER EAST DORMITORY, 201 East 21st Street Theft: A teal colored mountain bicycle was stolen from a sign pole located on the north west side of the building after being secured with a self-locking cable. Loss value: $50.00. Occurred: between 10-25-06, at 11:30 AM and 10-26-06, at 11:00 AM. PARKING LOT 110, 2200 Block Comal Burglary of Motor Vehicle: The driver’s door of a 1984 Oldsmobile was discovered open. Upon closer inspection, the owner of the vehicle discovered that the in-dash stereo system had been stolen. During the investigation, the officer discovered that the lock on the trunk had been pried off but entry into the trunk had been unsuccessful. Loss value: $150.00. Occurred on: 10-27-06, between 9:00 AM and 12:01 PM. TOWNES HALL, 727 East Dean Keeton Theft: A black and blue Cannondale mountain bicycle was stolen from the bike racks located on the north side of the building after being secured with a self-locking cable lock. Loss value: $500.00. Occurred on: 10-27-06, between 11:30 AM and 3:40 PM. UNIVERSITY POLICE BUILDING, 2201 Robert Dedman Dr. Theft: A silver Pentex digital camera and charger were stolen from an unsecured office. Loss value: $300.00. Occurred: between 10-27-06, at 3:00 PM and 10-30-06, at 6:00 AM. UNIVERSITY POLICE BUILDING, 2201 Robert Dedman Dr. Theft: A silver Pentex digital camera and charger were stolen from an unsecured office. Loss value: $300.00. Occurred: between 9-22-06, at 3:00 PM and 9-25-06, at 6:00 AM. Crime Prevention Tip: Many of you might be smiling that a theft occurred in the cop shop. But even within areas that we deem as being secured, a thief is always looking for that opportunity to commit a theft. Take a few moments, before walking away from your own office or dormitory room, ensure that the door is locked and secured. If a theft can occur inside a police station, a thief will not hesitate to make you their next victim. Learn from another’s mistake before making your own. 100 BLOCK EAST 21st STREET Assist Outside Agency: A UT police officer observed an illegally parked vehicle inside a tow-away zone. During the investigation, the owner of the vehicle approached the officer to discuss the situation as to why his vehicle was illegally parked. The owner was unable to provide the officer a current driver’s license and the officer soon discovered that the driver had three outstanding outside agency arrest warrants. The driver was taken into custody and transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 10-30-06, at12:50 PM. 100 BLOCK EAST 21st STREET Theft: A UT student approached a UT officer carrying two self-locking cable locks. The student wanted to report the theft of his bicycle. The student stated that he had secured his Cannondale racing bicycle to the bike racks located on the west side of the Graduate School of Business with a self-locking cable lock. Upon discovering his property missing, he discovered the second cut cable lock in the bushes. Loss value: $500.00. Occurred: 10-29-06, between 3:00 PM and 7:00 PM. 100 BLOCK WEST 21st STREET Public Intoxication: A UT student was observed staggering and swaying back and forth as he attempted to walk along the sidewalk. During the investigation, the officer detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the subject's breath and observed that the subject's eyes were bloodshot and watery. The subject was confused as to his location and where his house was located. The officer allowed the subject to call a friend. The subject was released to his sober friend after receiving a field release citation for Public Intoxication. Occurred on: 10-29-06, at 1:12 AM. 200 BLOCK WEST 6th STREET Possession of a Controlled Substance / Public Intoxication: A non-UT subject was observed attempting to hand roll a cigarette with some difficultly. During the investigation, the officer detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the subject’s breath. The subject’s eyes were bloodshot and watery. The subject did not understand the questions that the officer was asking and the officer had a hard time understanding the subject’s answers. The subject was taken into custody for Public Intoxication and was transported to Central booking. During a search of the subject, incidental to his arrest, the officer located a small plastic baggie that contained a dried brown substance that was later identified as Psilocybin. When asked how many mushrooms he had ingested the subject attempted to flee from inside Central Booking. Subject did not make it past the secured doors. Occurred on: 10-29-06, at 2:45 AM. 200 BLOCK GUADALUPE Public Intoxication / Assist Out side Agency: A non-UT subject was discovered passed out in the bushes with his pants unzipped and pulled down. The officer observed an empty Tequila bottle next to the unconscious subject. The officer had to use a sternum rub in order to awaken the subject. During the investigation, the officer discovered that the subject had an outstanding outside agency warrant for Public Intoxication. The subject was taken into custody for Public Intoxication as well as the warrant and transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 10-27-06, at 11:41 PM. 200 BLOCK JESTER CIRCLE DRIVE Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor: A UT student was observed staggering and having challenges with his balance as he walked across the street. During the investigation, the officer detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the subject's breath. The officer learned that the subject was under the legal age of 21. The student was issued a written field release citation for Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor. Since the subject was a UT student, he also received a referral to the Dean of Students office. Occurred on: 10-28-06, at 3:20 AM. 200 BLOCK EAST 21st STREET Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor: A UT student was observed carrying a yellow and black traffic control sign. When stopped, the student informed the officer that the sign would look good inside his dormitory room. During the investigation, the officer detected a moderate odor of alcohol on the subject’s breath. The officer discovered that the student was under the legal age of 21. The student was issued a field release citation for Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor and released. The student will receive an Official Notice from the Dean of Students. Occurred on: 10-29-06, at 1:40 AM. 300 BLOCK WEST 7th STREET Driving While Intoxicated: A red Chevy Tahoe was observed traveling the wrong way on a posted one-way street. The vehicle was stopped and the officer detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the driver’s breath. The driver’s eyes were droopy as if he appeared to be sleepy. During the investigation, the officer administered the Standardized Field Sobriety tests to the driver. The officer detected several clues of intoxication from the driver. The driver informed the officer that he had only three Red Bulls and vodka and that he was fine. The driver was taken into custody for Driving While Intoxicated and transported to Central Booking. The subject’s vehicle was inventoried and impounded by a local towing company. Occurred on: 10-29-06, at 2:45 AM. 300 BLOCK EAST 21st STREET Violates a Protective Order: A silver Toyota was observed running a stop sign. A female exited the vehicle and walked towards San Jacinto Residence Hall prior to the officer making contact with the driver. The female observed the officer talking to the driver of the Toyota and she walked back towards the vehicle. During the investigation, officers discovered that the passenger had filed a protective order on the driver due to the violent history of their relationship. The driver was taken into custody for Violating a Protective Order and transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 10-29-06, at 12:15 AM. 600 BLOCK COLORADO STREET Public Intoxication (2 Counts): A UT police officer was approached by a subject who was concerned about the physical condition of two females. Upon the arrival of the officer, he observed a female leaning out of the driver’s side door, clutching her keys while exhibiting an extreme physical reaction to the overconsumption of alcohol. A second female was observed bent over at the waist, creating her very own “splash zone.” During the investigation, the officer detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the breath of both subjects. The driver informed the officer that she would wait 20 minutes before driving home. The second subject told the officer that she would simply sleep inside her car. Both subjects were taken into custody for Public Intoxication and transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 10-29-06, at 1:40 AM. 700 BLOCK COLORADO STREET Public Intoxication: A UT student was observed exposing his genitals to several pedestrians while attempting to urinate on a wall. During the investigation, the officer detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the subject’s breath. The officer soon discovered that the subject was under the legal age of 21. The subject informed the officer that he had been arrested for DWI when asked how he had gotten the alcohol. The subject was taken into custody for Public Intoxication and transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 10-29-06, at 2:20 AM. 1500 BLOCK RED RIVER Public Intoxication: A non-UT subject was observed running down the sidewalk shaking his fist into the air. He would stop and start swaying back forth while attempting to maintain his balance. The subject was stopped and the officer detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the subject's breath. The subject could not stand still or sit without moving around or twitching. The officer suspected that the subject had ingested something else in addition to alcohol. During the investigation, the subject was taken into custody for Public Intoxication and transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 10-28-06, at 1:40 AM. 2500 BLOCK SAN JACINTO BLVD Criminal Mischief: A UT student reported all four of his Goodyear T-Metric tires had been deflated while his vehicle had been parked along the west curb line of San Jacinto. Discovered on: 10-29-06. 2600 BLOCK UNIVERSITY AVE. Public Intoxication: A UT student was discovered lying in the middle of the sidewalk with an outstretched arm clutching a cellular telephone. The officer observed that the subject was passed out. During the investigation, the officer detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the subject's breath. When the subject woke up, he attempted to stagger off and refused to follow the officer's instructions. The subject was taken into custody for Public Intoxication and transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 11-01-06, at 4:00 AM. I am sorry that the Campus Watch has not gone out in several days. My partner and I were attending an Alcohol Conference for the past several days. CAMPUS WIDE: Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, The University of Texas Police Department responded to 148 alarm calls, 15 medical calls, 5 collision report, 10 medical emergencies, and 45 unsecured door reports between 10-27-06 and 11-01-06.
