CAMPUS WATCH: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department patrol officers between Friday, 11-03-06 and Tuesday, 11-07-06. BRAZOS PARKING GARAGE, 200 East Martin Luther King Blvd. Theft: A white 1995 Toyota Camry was reported stolen after being parked inside the garage. Loss value: $4,000.00. Occurred: between 10-29-06, at 6:00 PM and 11-03-06, at 3:00 PM. CHEMICAL PETROLEUM ENGINEERING BUILDING, 200 East Dean Keeton Theft: A blue Mongoose mountain bicycle was stolen from the bike racks located on the south side of the building after being secured with a self-locking cable lock. Loss value: $150.00. Occurred: between 10-30-06, at 3:30 PM and 11-01-06, at 1:00- PM. DARRELL K. ROYAL - TEXAS MEMORIAL STADIUM, 405 East 23rd Street Possession of Alcohol by a Minor: A white plastic flask containing an amber liquid was discovered under a bench seat. The subject sitting above the flask denied ownership, even though the officer detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the subject's breath. During the investigation, the officer discovered that the subject was holding a cup that contained alcohol. The subject received a written field release citation for Possession of Alcohol by a Minor. Prior to being ejected from the stadium, the subject received a written referral to the Dean of Students Office. Occurred on: 11-04-06, at 7:00 PM. DARRELL K. ROYAL - TEXAS MEMORIAL STADIUM, 405 East 23rd Street Theft: A silver "Kitty" ring was stolen from an unsecured display case. Loss value: $70.00. Occurred on: 11-04-06, at 6:20 PM. ENGINEERING SCIENCE BUILDING, 100 East 24th Street Theft: The former owner of a black Apple iPod reported it stolen from inside her closed backpack which had left inside a first floor computer lab. Loss value: $200.00. Occurred on: 11-02-06, between 12:30 PM and 1:00 PM. JESTER WEST DORMITORY, 201 East 21st Street Assault: Two UT students reported that a friend of a third UT student struck them after they had gotten into an argument. Occurred on: 11-03-06, at 2:14 AM. MAIN BUILDING, #1 South Mall Burglary: A flat screen monitor was stolen from the first floor hallway after being removed from the mounting brackets. Loss value: $1,500.00. Occurred on: 11-05-06. PARKING LOT 27, 2600 Block Whitis Ave. Burglary of Motor Vehicle: The right-side passenger window of a 2001 Honda was discovered broken out. During the investigation, the officer discovered that the in-dash stereo had been forcibly removed from the dash. Loss value: $300.00. Occurred: 11-05-06, between 9:00 AM and 9:30 AM. PARKING LOT 115, 1600 East 20th Street Burglary of Motor Vehicle: The right front window of a red Jeep was discovered broken out. During the investigation, the officer discovered an Alpine AM/FM/CD stereo with a detachable faceplate had been stolen. Loss value: $250.00. Occurred: between 10-31-06, at 7:00 PM and 11-04-06, at 7:42 AM. PERRY-CASTANEDA LIBRARY, 101 East 21st Street Suspicious Person: A UT student reported that for the past several months a non-UT subject has been following her when she is studying inside the library. The subject was described as: white male, 6'-02", with long brown hair. Occurred on: 11-06-06, at 10:07 PM. PHARMACY BUILDING, 2409 University Ave Possession of Marijuana / Possession of Alcohol by a Minor (2 Counts): Two UT students were observed sitting on the patio, each drinking a beer. When both students observed the officer standing there watching them, they attempted to flee. When ordered to stop, they stopped. During the investigation, the officer issued both subjects a written field release citation for Possession of Alcohol by a Minor. As the investigation continued, the officer searched one of the subject's backpack and discovered a pipe and container that was filled with marijuana. The owner of the backpack was taken into custody for Possession of Marijuana and transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 11-05-06, at 1:21 AM. Crime Prevention Tip: Something as simple as relaxing and drinking a beer can lead to a free trip to jail when you are under the legal age of 21. SAN ANTONIO PARKING GARAGE, 2420 San Antonio Street Criminal Trespass: UT police officers discovered a subject camped out inside the southeast stairwell. During the investigation, the officer discovered that the subject had received a prior written criminal trespass warning for the same area. The subject was taken into custody for Criminal Trespass and transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 11-06-06, at 6:42 AM. SAN JACINTO RESIDENCE HALL, 309 East 21st Street Suspicious Person: A UT student stated that an unknown subject held the main door to the residence hall open for her. The subject then followed her in. The unknown subject began talking to the student while placing his arm around her waist. The student removed the offending appendage. The student walked towards a group of friends and observed that the unknown subject was leaving the area. During the investigation, the responding officer searched the area and was unable to locate the unknown subject. The subject was described as: black male, 5'-7", slim build, with short hair. The subject was last seen wearing a tan Polo shirt and dark pants. Occurred on: 11-06-06, at 3:00 PM. STUDENT SERVICES BUILDING, 100 West Dean Keeton Harassment: A UT staff member reported receiving several unwanted and harassing telephone calls from an unknown subject. The caller at first claimed to need help then began describing his personal body parts. Occurred on: 11-03-06, at 1:00 PM. WINSHIP DRAMA CENTER, 300 East 23rd Street Criminal Trespass: A non-UT subject was reported approaching students and staff and asking them for both money and cigarettes. The subject made several of the staff members feel very uncomfortable. During the investigation, the subject was located at a nearby bus stop. The subject admitted to the officer that he had been asking for money in order to get home. The subject was issued a written criminal trespass warning and was escorted from the area. Occurred on: 11-05-06, at 5:18 PM. 200 BLOCK EAST DEAN KEETON STREET Theft: A Schwinn mountain bicycle was reported stolen from the bike racks located adjacent to CPE, after being secured with a U-shaped lock. Loss value: $200.00. Occurred on: 9-28-06, between 9:00 AM and 10:00 PM. Reported on: 11-03-06. 200 BLOCK WEST 21st STREET Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor (3 Counts) / Failure to Identify: Three UT students were observed attempting to walk along a straight sidewalk. It appeared to the officer that the three subjects staggering. During the investigation, the officer detected a very strong odor of alcohol on all three subjects' breath. The officer requested, from all three subjects, their State issued driver's licenses. None of the subjects had any form of ID on them. As the investigation continued, the officer discovered that one student had given him a fictitious date of birth. The officer soon discovered that all three subjects were under the legal age of 21. All three were issued a field release citation for Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor. All three subjects also received notification that they would need to reported to the Dean of Students Office. Occurred on: 11-05-06, at 3:30 AM. 400 BLOCK EAST 23rd STREET Public Intoxication: UT officers observed a UT student laying halfway into the roadway. The officers also observed that the subject was wearing a sweater inside out as well as upside down. During the investigation, the officers detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the subject's breath. The officer tapped the bottom of the subject's foot to awaken him. The subject's eyes were bloodshot and watery. The officer noted that the subject was confused and disoriented as to his location. The subject was taken into custody for Public Intoxication and transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 11-05-06, at 3:50 AM. 2400 BLOCK RED RIVER Driving While Intoxicated: A silver Chevy Tahoe struck the rear portion of a Honda. The impact caused the Honda to roll forward, striking another vehicle. During the investigation, officers detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the breath of the Tahoe's driver. The investigating officer administered the Standard Field Sobriety tests. The officer detected several clues that indicated the driver was operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated. The driver was taken into custody for Driving While Intoxicated and transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 11-04-06, at 11:21 PM. As a side note, the drivers and passengers inside the other two vehicles only suffered minor, non-threatening injuries. Crime Prevention Tip of the Day: The Holiday Season is quickly approaching. Shoppers are beginning to go out daily looking for sales. Many of these shoppers are quickly grabbing these sale items. As we saw in today's issue of the Campus Watch, a burglary was committed in less than 30 minutes. CAMPUS WIDE: Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, The University of Texas Police Department responded to 145 alarm calls, 6 medical calls, 4 collision report, 10 suspicious activity reports, and 18 unsecured door reports between 11-03-06 and 11-07-06.
