CAMPUS WATCH: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department patrol officers between Friday, 11-10-06 and Monday, 11-13-06. ARREST AND APPREHENSION: On 11-03-06, the Austin Police Department arrested a subject that had attempted an Aggravated Robbery. During the investigation, the suspect admitted to a robbery that had occurred the day before near the UIL Building. The victim in that case was shown a photo line-up and was able to positively identify the suspect. BRACKENRIDGE APARTMENTS, 3500 Lake Austin Blvd. Theft: A 15-foot aluminum canoe was stolen from along the Colorado River after being left unattended and unsecured. Loss value: $100.00. Occurred: between 10-02-06 and 11-04-06. BRACKENRIDGE APARTMENTS, 3500 Lake Austin Blvd. Illegal Dumping: A UT staff member observed several unknown subjects dumping bundles of black plastic and party trash onto an undeveloped area of the apartment complex. The unknown subjects were described as: college aged white males. Occurred on: 11-12-06. GRADUATE SCHOOL OF BUSINESS, 100 West 21st Street Theft: A silver colored NEC laptop computer was stolen from an unsecured 3rd floor office. The property had been left unattended for less than 10 minutes. Loss value: $1,000.00. Occurred on: 11-11-06, between 2:00 PM and 2:10 PM. JESTER WEST DORMITORY, 201 East 21st Street Criminal Trespass / Stalking: Two UT students reported that a subject was knocking on random doors on the 8th floor. When a resident assistant went to investigate, she observed the subject peeking around the corner. During the investigation, the officer located the subject. The officer was informed that the subject was an invited guest and was waiting for a friend to return. As the investigation continued, the officer soon learned that the subject had received a written criminal trespass warning earlier in the day after getting involved in a possible assault. The subject was taken into custody for Criminal Trespass and transported to Central Booking. After the subject was taken into custody, the officer soon learned from the UT student that there had been physical violence in the relationship. Additional charges were filed and an emergancy protective order was filed. Occurred on: 11-12-06, at 8:28 PM. Crime Prevention Tip: KUDOS to the two UT students who notified the Jester Dormitory staff about a suspicious person. This subject was able to gain access to the 8th floor after being let into the dormitory and following an unidentified subject onto the floor (the exact manner that was documented by KEYE 42 on 11-09-06. http://www.keyetv.com/ ). LADY BIRD JOHNSON WILDFLOWER CENTER, 4801 La Crosse Ave. Criminal Trespass Warning: Two non-UT subjects were observed driving a go-kart on the Wildflower Center property. Approximately 30 minutes later a UT staff member over heard two rifle shots in the south portion of the property. During the investigation, the officers were able to locate the two subjects at their residence. Both admitted to being on the property days earlier with their go-kart. The officers issued both subjects a written criminal trespass warning. Occurred on: 11-10-06, at 7:38 PM. PARKING LOT 104, 1300 East Martin Luther King Blvd. Criminal Trespass Warning: A non-UT subject had reportedly grabbed his ex-girlfriend's hand in order to get her to return to his vehicle. During the investigation, the officer learned that the ex-girlfriend was a current UT student and had broken off her relationship with the no-UT subject. The non-UT subject was issued a written criminal trespass warning and escorted from the area. A UT officer provided an escort for the UT student back to her dormitory. Occurred on: 11-12-06, at 11:47 AM. PARKING LOT 115, 1600 East 20th Street Burglary of Motor Vehicle: The driver's side window of a 1995 Ford was discovered broken and a detachable face plate from a stereo missing. The officer observed that the center console and the glove box had been forced open. Loss value: Unknown at this time. Discovered on : 11-12-06, at 3:38 AM. SOUTH MALL Arson: A UT student observed three unknown white males running away from the South Mall. The student soon discovered a small fire burning in the same area that he had seen the subjects running from. During the investigation, the student informed the officer that he had seen a white truck parking along 21st Street with the engine running. The three subjects who ran from the South Mall got into the truck and left the area at a high rate of speed. As the investigation continued the officer discovered that a flammable liquid had been used to burn a 15' X 20' TA&M into the grass. Loss value: $1,000.00. Occurred on: 11-12-06, at 4:53 AM. 300 BLOCK EAST DEAN KEETON Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol by a Minor: A red Honda was observed traveling east without its headlights on. During the investigation, the officer detected a strong odor of alcohol on the driver's breath. The officer administered the Standardized Field Sobriety tests to the driver. The driver did not exhibit enough clues of intoxication. However the officer discovered that the driver was under the legal age of 21. The driver was issued a field release citation for Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol by a Minor. The Honda was impounded. Occurred on: 11-11-06, at 1:24 AM. 300 BLOCK WEST INNER CAMPUS DRIVE Public Intoxication / Possession of More than One Valid DL: A UT student was observed leaning against a wall for support. When the subject observed a marked police vehicle, she began staggering away. When the officer stopped the subject, the officer detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the student's breath. The officer also noted that the subject's eyes were bloodshot and that she had been crying. During the investigation, the officer took the subject into custody for Public Intoxication and transported her to Central Booking. During a search incidental to her arrest the officer discovered that the student was in possession of more than one valid State of Texas driver's license. All of the licenses not issued to her presented the student as being older than 21 years of age. Occurred on: 11-12-06, at 1:00 AM. 500 BLOCK EAST DEAN KEETON Public intoxication: A UT student was discovered passed out in the grass next to a roadway. During the investigation, the officer observed a subject with grass and leaves in his hair standing next to the reporting person. The student was swaying back and forth and was confused. The officer detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the student's breath. The student was taken into custody for Public Intoxication and transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 11-12-06, at 2:11 AM. 700 BLOCK LAVACA Driving While Intoxicated: A silver colored VW was observed traveling the wrong way on a one-way street into oncoming traffic. When the vehicle was stopped, the officer detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the driver's breath. The officer also noted that the driver's eyes were bloodshot and very glassy. The officer administered the Standardized Field Sobriety tests to the driver. The driver provided the officer with several clues that indicated that the driver was intoxicated. The driver was taken into custody for Driving While Intoxicated and transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 11-12-06, at 2:56 AM. 2300 BLOCK TRINITY Assist Outside Agency: A grey Dodge was observed traveling the wrong way on a one-way street. During the investigation, the driver attempted to leave his vehicle after stopping. The subject was ordered to stop. During the investigation, the officer soon learned that the subject had an outstanding outside agency arrest warrant. The driver was taken into custody and transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 11-11-06, at 4:30 PM. 3800 BLOCK GUADALUPE Driving While Intoxicated / Public Intoxication: UT police officers observed a Chevy Impala traveling at a high rate of speed. The Chevy pulled into an alleyway and the passenger door flung open. The officers observed a subject lean out and begin having an extreme physical reaction to the over consumption of alcohol. During the investigation, the officer detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the driver's breath and observed that the driver's eyes were bloodshot and watery. The officer administered the Standardized Field Sobriety tests to the driver. The driver provided the officer with several clues that indicated that the driver was intoxicated. The driver was taken into custody for Driving While Intoxicated and transported to Central Booking. The officer soon discovered that the driver had two outstanding outside agency arrest warrants. The passenger had contacted the driver to pick her up from a party since she was unable to drive. The officer noted the following signs of intoxication with the passenger, bloodshot eyes, slurred speech and a strong odor of alcohol on the passenger's breath. The subject was a danger to herself since the driver was arrested for DWI and she was unable to walk. The passenger was taken into custody for Public Intoxication and transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 11-11-06, at 4:48 AM. CAMPUS WIDE: Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, The University of Texas Police Department responded to 65 alarm calls, 7medical calls, 11 suspicious activity reports, and 25 unsecured door reports between 11-10-06 and 11-13-06.
