Report for 11/15/2006


CAMPUS WATCH: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department patrol officers between Tuesday, 11-14-06 and Wednesday, 11-15-06. 400 BLOCK WEST MARTIN LUTHER KING BLVD. Driving While Intoxication: A black Honda was observed attempting to race a black BMW that was traveling west on MLK in excess of 60 MPH. During the investigation, the officer detected a strong odor of alcohol on the breath of the driver of the Honda. The officer noted that the driver's eyes were bloodshot and glassy. When the driver spoke, he was slurring his words. The officer asked the driver if he had been drinking, the driver responded, "I'm heading home." As the investigation continued, the officer administered the Standardized Field Sobriety tests. The driver exhibited several clues that he was intoxicated. The driver was taken into custody for Driving While Intoxicated and transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 11-15-06, at 2:10 AM. 1900 BLOCK NORTH IH-35 Driving While Intoxicated: A white Dodge was observed traveling in the wrong direction on a one-way street after passing two large "DO NOT ENTER" signs. After the vehicle was stopped, the driver explained to the officer that an unidentified vehicle had struck his car then left. The officer did not observe any damage to the Dodge. The officer did detect a strong odor of alcohol on the driver's breath with a hint of mint. The officer asked the driver if he had been drinking. The driver denied that he had been drinking then recanted his story and admitted that he had drank two beers earlier. As the investigation continued, the officer administered the Standardized Field Sobriety tests. The driver exhibited several clues that indicated he was intoxicated. The driver was taken into custody for Driving While Intoxicated and transported to Central Booking. Once at Central Booking, the subject became combative and was placed into an isolation cell. Occurred on: 11-15-06, at 2:34 AM. CAMPUS WIDE: Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, The University of Texas Police Department responded to 50 alarm calls, 2 medical calls, 3 suspicious activity reports, 1 collision report, and 6 unsecured door reports between 11-14-06 and 11-15-06.
