CAMPUS WATCH: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department patrol officers between Tuesday, 11-21-06 and Wednesday, 11-22-06. GOLDSMITH, #5 West Mall Suspicious Person: A non UT subject was found sleeping in a flower bed. He was issued a verbal criminal trespass warning. Occurred: 11-21-06, at 8:25 AM. SAN ANTONIO PARKING GARAGE, 2420 San Antonio ST Criminal Mischief: A UT student reported that damage was done to her vehicle as she left it unattended and legally parked on the 3rd level. Her vehicle was scratched, one windshield wiper was damaged, and the antenna was broken. Damage to Property: $325.00. Occurred: 11-21-06, between 11:30 AM and 4:50 PM. ART BUILDING, 2300 San Jacinto BLVD Assault-Physical Contact-Offensive/Provocative: A class was conducting a class project on the 4th floor deck. As part of his project, a UT student threw a five gallon bucket of water on a group of students and began referring to the group as “Nazis.” The group had no advanced warning that they were going to be doused with cold water. Occurred: 11-21-06, at 10:30 PM. 400 E. Martin Luther King BLVD Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol by a Minor: A silver Ford vehicle was observed traveling at a high rate of speed in the 2000 block of San Jacinto Blvd. The officer clocked the vehicle, with calibrated radar, traveling at 31 mph in a posted 15 mph zone. The officer initiated the traffic stop. Upon contact with the driver, a UT student, the officer detected a strong odor of alcohol coming from inside the vehicle. The driver stated that he had not been drinking; however, two of his friends that he already dropped off had been. As the officer was speaking with the driver, the officer detected an odor of alcohol coming from his breath. The driver consented to performing The Standardized Field Sobriety Test. It was determined that the driver was not intoxicated to the point he could not operate a motor vehicle safely; however he was under the legal drinking age of 21. The driver admitted to drinking two beers. His driver license was confiscated, he was issued a field release citation, and his vehicle was towed. The driver called a sober friend to pick him up. Occurred: 11-22-06, at 1:24 AM. 23rd ST and San Jacinto BLVD Driving While License Invalid: An officer observed a white GMC pick-up truck roll through the stop sign, passing the stop line, and stop in the middle of the intersection. The officer initiated the traffic stop. The driver, a UT student, was driving with a revoked license. His vehicle was towed. The driver was arrested and transported to Central Booking. CAMPUS WIDE: Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, The University of Texas Police Department responded to 11 alarm calls, 1 medical call, 1 information report, 2 unsecured door reports, and 1 key assist between 11-21-06 and 11-22-06. UTPD generally schedules a Defensive Driving Class approximately once a month – based on need. The classes meet in the University Police Building, Room 1.318, located at 2201 Robert Dedman Dr (east of Memorial Stadium). The cost for the course is $25.00 (check or cash) payable on class date. If paying in cash, please bring the exact amount because change may not be available. You will also need to bring your driver's license.
