CAMPUS WATCH: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department patrol officers between Monday, 11-27-06 and Tuesday, 11-28-06. JESTER DORMITORY, 201 East 21st Street Assault / Theft: A UT student reported lending her ex-boyfriend her silver Pavillion laptop computer. The student stated that she had requested her ex-boyfriend to return her property to her. The ex-boyfriend told her "no." During the investigation, the student stated that she saw her ex-boyfriend eating and again asked for the return of her property. Again the ex told her "no." The student followed him to his room and discovered that her property was gone. While discussing with her ex-boyfriend why her property was gone, the ex-boyfriend pushed her away and refused to allow her to leave his room. The student was able to trick the ex and exit the room. Loss value: $1,000.00. Occurred on: 11-27-06, at 5:45 PM. PARKING LOT 23, 1800 Block Red River Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor: A UT police officer observed two subjects walking around a red Mercury as if they were inspecting damage to the vehicle. During the investigation, the officer observed that the right front tire was flat and the rim appeared to be bent. There was a large streak of white paint along the driver's side of the vehicle. As the officer approached both subjects he detected a very strong odor of alcohol on their breaths. The owner of the vehicle stated that they were leaving a West Campus party and that she had drank too much. The second subject stated that she had drunk only a little and was sober to drive them both home. As the investigation continued the officer determined that both subjects were under the legal age of 21 and had been consuming alcohol. Both subjects were issued a field release citation for Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor. Since one of the subjects is a current UT student, one received a referral to the Dean of Student's Office. Occurred on: 11-26-06, at 3:05 AM. PARKING LOT 108, 1500 Block Red River Burglary of Motor Vehicle: The driver's side rear passenger window of a grey Kia was discovered broken. During the investigation, it was determined that a baby blue backpack containing a Pathophysiology textbook, and a Medical Surgical Nursing textbook were stolen. Loss value: $165.00. Occurred on: 11-27-06, between 6:30 AM and 2:45 PM. PERFORMING ARTS CENTER, 510 East 23rd Street Theft: A Fossil wallet containing a number of credit cards and various forms of identification was stolen from inside a purse. The purse was left under a desk, inside and unsecured office. Loss value: $50.00. Occurred on: 11-27-06, between 12:05 PM and 12:25 PM. PETER T. FLAWN ACADEMIC CENTER, #2 West Mall Suspicious Person: A non-UT was observed changing direction of travel to intercept a female student. The subject's actions were observed by the female, who in turn changed her direction of travel and walked towards a UT police officer, who was watching the subject. When the subject saw the officer, he walked away. The subject was stopped and identified. Occurred on: 11-28-06, at 3:10 AM. Crime Prevention Tip: It is unclear what this person's intentions were when he changed directions to intercept the female student. Kudos to the student for being aware of her surroundings and taking action. These are the same type scenarios that talked about in the FREE Rape Aggression Defense Program (women's self defense). 1900 BLOCK BRAZOS Driving While Intoxicated: A green Honda was seen running a stop sign and continued to travel south on San Jacinto at a high rate of speed. When the vehicle was stopped, the officer detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the driver's breath. During the investigation, the officer requested from the driver her license and insurance. The driver forgot to give the officer her insurance information. As the investigation continued the officer administered the Standardized Field Sobriety tests. During the SFST the driver displayed a number of clues that indicated she was intoxicated. The driver was taken into custody for Driving While Intoxicated and was transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 11-26-06, at 2:15 AM. 4300 BLOCK GUADALUPE Driving While Intoxicated: A red Ford was observed speeding and swerving from lane to lane. After the officer turn on his overhead lights the driver of the red Ford stopped her vehicle several times in the center turn lane. After the vehicle was stopped, the officer requested the drivers driver's license and insurance. The officer was handed a blank piece of paper. The driver then asked the officer why there was an ambulance behind of her vehicle. The officer explained that the vehicle behind her was a marked police vehicle. During the investigation, the officer detected a strong odor of alcohol on the driver's breath and noted that her eyes were bloodshot and watery. The officer administered the Standardized Field Sobriety tests. The driver provided the officer a number of clues that she was intoxicated. The driver was taken into custody for Driving While Intoxicated. She was transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 11-26-06, at 4:08 AM. Crime Prevention Tip: The count down continues, there are 27 shopping days left till Christmas. CAMPUS WIDE: Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, The University of Texas Police Department responded to 38 alarm calls, 3 medical call, 2 suspicious activity reports, and 5 unsecured door reports between 11-27-06 and 11-28-06.
