CAMPUS WATCH: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department patrol officers between Tuesday, 11-28-06 and Wednesday, 11-29-06. * * * * * ADMINISTRATIVE MESSAGE * * * * * Congratulations to the UT student from Simkins Dormitory who became our latest recipient of a FREE large pizza in the Hungry for Justice Program. His telephone call led to the arrest of a bike thief and the recovery of the stolen property. Job well done. TOWNES HALL, 727 East Dean Keeton Burglary of Building: A media cabinet located inside a 3rd floor office was discovered forced open. During the investigation, the officer discovered that a Panasonic DVD / VCR had been stolen. Loss value: $80.00. Damage est.: $50.00. Discovered on: 11-28-06, at 8:07 AM. UNIVERSITY TEACHING CENTER, 105 West 21st Street Criminal Trespass: A non-UT subject was discovered sleeping inside a restricted area that was reserved for UT students and staff. During the investigation, the subject was issued a written criminal trespass warning and escorted from the building. Occurred on: 11-29-06, at 12:50 AM. 1900 BLOCK SPEEDWAY Public Intoxication (2 Counts): A non-UT subject flagged down a UT police officer while holding up a short retaining wall. The subject informed the officer that he was concerned about a second subject's welfare. During the investigation, the officer detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the breath of the second subject. The second subject was having physical challenges maintaining his balance when standing. The subject was confused and did not know what city he was in. As the investigation continued, the officer began interviewing the first subject. The officer detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the breath of the first subject. The subject was hesitant to step away from the retaining wall. During the interview the subject believed he was at Texas A&M. Both subjects were taken into custody for Public Intoxication and transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 11-28-06, at 11:30 PM. 2400 BLOCK SAN JACINTO Driving While License Invalid: A red Jeep was heard screeching its brakes to come to a complete stop in the middle of the intersection of 24th Street and San Jacinto. During the investigation, the officer soon discovered that the driver was operating a motor vehicle with a suspended driver's license. The driver was taken into custody for Driving While License Invalid and transported to Central Booking. The subject's vehicle was impounded. Occurred on: 11-29-06, at 2:20 AM. Crime Prevention Tip: The count down continues and there are 17 shopping days left till Hanukkah, 26 days till Christmas, and 27 days till Kwanzaa. Gifts marked off the "Wish List" Laptop computer √ Wallet √ Credit Cards √ Good ol' American currency √ Panasonic DVD / VCR √ CAMPUS WIDE: Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, The University of Texas Police Department responded to 48 alarm calls, 2 medical call, 4 suspicious activity reports, 1 collision report, 1 accidental damage report, and 6 unsecured door reports between 11-28-06 and 11-29-06. UTPD generally schedules a Defensive Driving Class approximately once a month – based on need. The classes meet in the University Police Building, Room 1.318, located at 2201 Robert Dedman Dr (east of Memorial Stadium). The cost for the course is $25.00 (check or cash) payable on class date. If paying in cash, please bring the exact amount because change may not be available. You will also need to bring your driver's license.
