CAMPUS WATCH: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department patrol officers between Wednesday, 11-29-06 and Friday 12-01-06. * * * * ADMINISTRATIVE MESSEGE * * * * * The UT Police Crime Prevention Unit has completed its 100th group presentation for the semester. On average, this is accomplished over the course of the entire school year. JONES COMMUNICATIONS BUILDING-A, 2504-A Whitis Ave. Theft: A UT student reported the theft of his messenger bag which contained his Apple iBook laptop computer. The student stated that he had set the bag and computer down on a bench and left it there unattended to talk to several friends that were on the other side of the pavilion. Upon his return he discovered it missing. Loss value: $950.00. Occurred on: 11-29-06, between 8:45 PM and 9:30 PM. JESSE H. JONES COMMUNICATIONS BUILDING-C, 2504-C Whitis Ave. Theft: A silver Panasonic DVD recorder was stolen from an unsecured cabinet located inside an unsecured 4th floor room. Loss value: $175.00. Occurred: between 11-29-06, at 10:00 PM and 11-30-06, at 11:00 AM. PARKING LOT 115, 1600 East 20th Street Criminal Mischief: A UT police officer heard a car alarm of a red Isuzu going off. As the officer was approaching the vehicle an unidentified female informed the officer that two unknown Hispanic males had been around the vehicle. The unknown had been last seen exiting the parking lot in a newer model white colored Mitsubishi. During the investigation, the officer discovered that the driver's side window had been broken out and an attempt had been made to steal the in-dash stereo. Loss value:$150.00. Occurred on: 11-29-06, at 3:55 PM. ROBERT L. MOORE HALL, 2515 Speedway Suspicious Activity: A UT staff member observed two UT students leaning over the coffee counter. It appeared as if both subjects were attempting to remove merchandise after the business had closed for the day. During the investigation, one subject was located on the fifth floor. One subject explained to the officer that he was just using the hot water, not realizing that he himself could get into more hot water than he planned. Occurred on: 12-01-06, at 12:55 AM. 100 BLOCK WEST DEAN KEETON Public Intoxication / Criminal Mischief: Three non-UT subjects were observed traveling east along Dean Keeton breaking windows and damaging vehicles parked along the street. During the investigation, UT police officers located three subjects matching the descriptions given. Officers observed one subject was bleeding from a laceration to her arm. The officer was informed that the subject had cut herself when breaking an already broken window. Officers searched the area and located seven vehicles that had been damaged. As the investigation continued officers detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the breath of the subject with the cut arm. The subject admitted to the officer that she had been drinking heavily and that when she is drunk she becomes very violent. The subject was taken into custody for Public Intoxication / Criminal Mischief and was transported to Central Booking. Damage est.: unknown at this time. Occurred on: 11-28-06, at 8:15 PM. 1900 BLOCK BRAZOS Driving Under the Influence by a Minor: A gold colored Ford Explorer was observed traveling east along MLK without its headlamps activated. The vehicle was stopped and the officer detected a moderate odor of alcohol on the driver's breath. The officer discovered that the driver was under the legal age of 21. During the investigation, the officer did not detect any clues that would indicate that the driver was operating a motor vehicle while being intoxicated. The officer issued the driver a field release citation for Driving under the Influence of Alcohol by a Minor and impounded her driver license and vehicle. The subject contacted a sober friend to drive her home. Occurred on: 12-01-06, at 2:38 AM. 2400 BLOCK GUADALUPE Driving While Intoxicated / Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor (2 Counts) / Possession of Marijuana: A blue Toyota was observed spinning its rear tires and loose control as it began fishtailing. During the investigation, the officer detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the breath of the driver and observed that the driver's eyes were bloodshot . The officer asked the driver for his license and insurence. The driver informed the officer that he did not have his license with him because the last officer did not return it to him. As the driver opened his glove box to retrieve his insurance card an unopened 12-oz can of beer rolled out and landed on the floorboard. The officer asked the driver if he had been drinking and the driver replied that he had only drunk two beers. The officer asked the driver to exit the vehicle and step over to the sidewalk. As the driver got out of the vehicle the officer noticed that the subject's pants were unzipped and his genitals were exposed. During the investigation, the officer administered the Standardized Field sobriety Tests and observed several clues that indicated that the driver was intoxicated. The driver was taken into custody for Driving While Intoxicated and transported to Central Booking. As the investigation continued, officers soon discovered that both passengers inside the vehicle were also under the legal age of 21 and had been consuming alcohol. Both were issued field release citations for Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor. Officers discovered a plastic baggie containing marijuana in the rear of the passenger compartment. The backseat passenger stated that he had been smoking earlier in the day but the baggie was not his. The backseat passenger was taken into custody for Possession of Marijuana and also transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 11-30-06, at 2:40 AM. 2500 BLOCK RED RIVER Burglary of Motor Vehicle: A UT student returned to his white Ford truck and discovered both doors unlocked and his Pioneer AM/FM/CD stereo system stolen. During the investigation, the officer was told that an unknown amount of change had been taken from a cup holder as well. Loss value: $184.00. Occurred: between 11-26-06, at 10:00 PM and 11-29-06, at 6:30 PM. Crime Prevention Tip: The countdown continues and there are 15 shopping days left till Hanukkah, 24 days till Christmas, and 25 days till Kwanzaa.
