CAMPUS WATCH: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department patrol officers between Monday, 12-04-06 and Tuesday, 12-05-06. JESTER WEST DORMITORY, 201 East 21st Street Smell of Marijuana: A UT staff member detected a strong odor of burning marijuana emanating from a third floor dormitory room. Upon the arrival of the UT police officer, the officer was able to detect a faint odor of burnt marijuana coming from the same dormitory room. During the investigation, the officer knocked on the door and heard the sounds of shuffling coming from inside the room. When the resident opened the door, the officer detected a fresh smell of deodorizing spray and observed a can of deodorizer in plain view. The officer did not observe any signs or clues to indicate marijuana use inside the room. Occurred on: 12-04-06, at 9:56 PM. JOHN HARGIS HALL, 1811 Red River Criminal Trespass Warning: A non-UT subject was observed attempting to gain entry into the building by pulling on several exterior doors. The subject was issued a written criminal trespass warning and escorted from the area. Occurred on: 12-05-06, at 5:08 AM. LADY BIRD JOHNSON WILDFLOWER CENTER, 4801 Lacrosse Ave. Burglary of Building: The rear door leading into the Café was discovered pried open with an unknown tool. During the investigation, the officer soon learned that the cash drawer from the cash register had been removed and deposited in a grassy area near the parking lot. Loss value: Unknown at this time. Occurred: between 12-03-06, at 7:50 PM and 12-04-06, at 11:30 AM. 2500 BLOCK SAN JACINTO Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol by a Minor: A blue colored Toyota was observed "power sliding" as the driver made a left hand turn onto San Jacinto from 21st Street. The vehicle continued traveling north on San Jacinto at a high rate of speed. The officer attempted to stop the vehicle as the vehicle made a hard right turn and entered the parking lot under the San Jacinto parking garage. The vehicle accelerated rapidly and exited the parking lot and entered the Simkins parking lot. The driver exited the vehicle and walked towards the dormitory. During the investigation, the officer detected a moderate odor of alcohol on the driver's breath and asked him if he had been drinking. The driver told the officer that he had been to a drug-and-alcohol-free party a Jester Dormitory and had only drunk egg nog. As the investigation continued, the officer did not observe any visible clues that would indicate that the driver was intoxicated. The officer did detect alcohol on the subject's breath and determined that the driver was under the legal age of 21. The driver was issued a citation for Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol by a Minor. The subject's driver's license was confiscated. Occurred on: 12-03-06, at 4:03 AM. CAMPUS WIDE: Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, The University of Texas Police Department responded to 34 alarm calls, 2 medical calls, 2 suspicious activity reports, 1 collision report, and 5 unsecured door reports between 12-04-06 and 12-05-06.
