CAMPUS WATCH: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department patrol officers between Friday, 01-19-07 and Monday, 01-22-07. * * * * ADMINISTRATIVE MESSAGE * * * * * On 01-20-07 the subject featured in the Campus Watch on 01-12-07 was arrested and taken into custody. I would like to remind everyone to remain vigilant once this subject is released. He has a tendency to return to campus and continue where he left off. His photo can be viewed on the UTPD web page at: http://www.utexas.edu/police/alerts/ EXPERIMENTAL SCIENCE BUILDING, 100 East 24th Street Burglary of Building: A UT student discovered the glass insert to a first floor door broken. During the investigation, the officer and student discovered that a Miter saw and a handsaw had been taken. Loss value: $170.00. Discovered on: 01-21-07, at 8:20 PM. GRADUATE SCHOOL OF BUSINESS, 100 West 21st Street Public Intoxication: A non-UT subject was discovered passed out inside the women's restroom located on the 2nd floor. During the investigation, the officers were able to get the subject to wake up and exit the stall. The officer observed that the subject still had in her possession a quart bottle of port wine that was three quarters empty. The officers observed that the subject could not maintain her balance and slurred her speech. The subject was taken into custody for Public Intoxication and transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 01-19-07, at 8:09 AM. JESTER EAST DORMITORY, 203 East 21st Street Possession of Drug Paraphernalia / Possession of Alcohol by a Minor: A UT staff member detected a very strong odor of burning marijuana emanating from a 5th floor dormitory room. Upon the arrival of the UT police officers, officers verified the strong odor of burning marijuana and heard the distinctive sound of an aerosol spray being used inside the dormitory room. The officers knocked on the door and were allowed into the room by the residences. During the investigation, the officers received consent from the occupants to search the room. A trace amount of a green leafy substance was discovered inside the trash can and on a desk. The substance was later identified as marijuana. The officers also discovered a bottle of Jack Daniels whiskey sitting on a bookshelf. As the investigation continued, both subjects were issued field release citations for Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and Possession of Alcohol by a Minor. Occurred on: 01-20-07, at 12:10 AM. 100 BLOCK WEST 21st STREET Theft: A silver-colored Triax mountain bicycle was stolen after being secured to a pole with a self-locking cable lock. Loss value: $60.00. Occurred on: 01-18-07, between 4:00 PM and 4:50 PM. 2300 BLOCK GUADALUPE Driving While Intoxicated: A white-colored Suzuki SUV was observed traveling the wrong way on a posted one-way street. During the investigation, the officer detected a moderate odor of alcohol on the driver's breath. The driver informed the officer that he had only consumed two beers. The officer administered the Standardized Field Sobriety tests and the driver displayed several clues that indicated he was intoxicated. The driver was taken into custody for Driving While Intoxicated and transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 01-21-07, at 2:25 AM. 2500 BLOCK SAN JACINTO Driving While intoxicated: A UT police officer observed a white vehicle fail to stop at a stop sign and continue traveling north on San Jacinto without turning on the head lamps. The vehicle was stopped and the officer detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the driver's breath. During the investigation, the officer asked the driver if he had been drinking alcohol and the driver replied that he had not been drinking at all. The officer administered the Standardized Field Sobriety tests. The driver displayed several clues that indicated that he was intoxicated. The driver was taken into custody for Driving While Intoxicated and transported to Central Booking. Occurred on 01-19-07, at 3:35 AM. 2500 BLOCK SAN JACINTO Driving While Intoxicated: A silver-colored Ford truck was observed accelerating rapidly from a stopped position at the intersection of 24th Street and San Jacinto. The vehicle was then observed stopped at the intersection of San Jacinto and Dean Keeton when the traffic control light was green in color. During the investigation, the officer requested from the driver a current driver's license. The driver stated that his friend had his wallet. The officer detected a very strong odor of alcohol on the driver's breath and noted that his eyes were bloodshot. During the investigation, the officer administered the Standardized Field Sobriety tests and the driver displayed several clues that indicated he was intoxicated. The driver was taken into custody for Driving While Intoxicated and transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 01-20-07, at 5:10 AM. 2600 BLOCK GUADALUPE Public Intoxication: A non-UT subject was observed attempting to kick a plastic cup, then stumble and lose his balance each time he kicked at it. The subject was observed entering into a local area business and pushed his way past two APD officers investigating another prior offence. The subject was stopped as he was exiting the business and was told to stop. The subject replied, "I don't have to", and attempted to leave the area. The subject was taken into custody for Public Intoxication and transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 01-22-07, at 2:00 AM. 5500 BLOCK GUADALUPE: Driving While Intoxicated / Assist Outside Agency: A blue Chevy truck was observed committing several traffic violations including traveling through an intersection while in the left hand turn lane. The vehicle stopped, for the officer, only after pulling into a private driveway. During the investigation, the officer requested the driver to roll his window the driver turned his head lamps off. Once the window was rolled down, the officer detected a very strong odor of alcohol inside the passenger compartment and on the driver's breath. The officer noted that the driver's eyes were bloodshot and watery. The driver was taken into custody for Driving While Intoxicated. The officer soon discovered that the driver had an outstanding outside agency warrant for- you guess it Driving While Intoxicated. The subject was transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 01-20-07, at 5:00 AM. CAMPUS WIDE: Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, The University of Texas Police Department responded to 86 alarm calls, 6 medical emergency call, 3 suspicious persons calls, 2 suspicious activity reports, and 10 unsecured door reports between 01-19-07 and 01-22-07.
