CAMPUS WATCH: Below is a summary of campus activity reported to or observed by the University Police Department patrol officers between Tuesday, 01-23-07 and Wednesday, 01-24-07. GATEWAY APARTMENTS, 1600 Block West 6th Street Theft: The front and rear license plates were removed from a green Chevy pickup truck. Loss value: $5.00. Occurred: 01-23-07, between 1:55 PM and 2:14 PM. MAIN BUILDING, #1 South Mall Suspicious Persons: A UT staff member observed an unknown subject exit the elevator and walk up to her window to look out over the South Mall area. The staff member informed the subject that the 26th floor was closed to the general public and that he could not view the campus from that location. The subject left the floor, and returned with another unknown subject. Again the staff member told both subjects that they could not view the campus from the 26th floor and pointed to a 1' X 1' sign that states "No viewing on this floor." The first unknown subject replied, "That's alright we are just visiting from Kentucky." The unknown subjects were described as: First subject: White male, 5'-11", and 230 lbs.; Second subject: White male, 5'-11', and 200 lbs. Occurred on: 01-23-07, at 8:21 AM. STUDENT SERVICES BUILDING, 100 West Dean Keeton Suspicious Person: UT police responded to a panic alarm located on the first floor. During the investigation, the officer learned that an unknown subject had entered into the area and began talking to a staff member. A second staff member interrupted the conversation. The subject became upset at the interruption. The first staff member notified the police quickly. The subject left the area prior to the arrival of the officers. The subject was described as: Black male, thin build, and facial hair. The subject was last seen wearing a coat and two or three knit caps. Occurred on: 01-23-07, at 1:09 PM. Crime Prevention Tip: Kudos to the staff members. The staff realized that there might be a problem with the subject and when he became upset, they notified the police quickly via the panic alarm. Good Job. UNION BUILDING, #4 West Mall Suspicious Person: A UT staff member discovered an unknown subject hiding behind a couch inside a third floor room after the building was closed. The subject stood up and left the area mumbling under his breath. During the investigation, the staff member stated that his staff had previously dealt with the subject on another occasion. Officers searched the area and were unable to locate the subject. The unknown subject was described as: Black male, 20 years of age, very thin build, unshaven, with a medium afro. Occurred on 01-23-07, at 2:55 AM. UNION BUILDING, #4 West Mall Unlawful Carrying of Weapons / Criminal Trespass: A UT staff member discovered a non-UT subject inside a third floor room after being told not to return the previous day. During the investigation, the officer located the subject and observed a green backpack resting next to the subject. The officer identified the subject and verified that he did not have any authority to be within the restricted area of the building. The officer requested consent to search the subject's backpack. The subject informed the officer, "You may search by bag." During the consent to search, the officer located a 7 ¾ inch sheathed knife inside the backpack. The subject was taken into custody for Unlawful Carrying of Weapons. Soon after taking the subject into custody, the officer learned that the subject had received three prior written Criminal Trespass Warnings. In addition to other law enforcement actions taken, the subject was charged with Criminal Trespass and transported to Central Booking. Occurred on: 01-23-07, at 11:34 AM. CAMPUS WIDE: Non-Criminal Calls: In addition to the above criminal cases, The University of Texas Police Department responded to 48 alarm calls, 3 medical emergency call, 3 suspicious persons calls, 2 suspicious activity reports, and 3 unsecured door reports between 01-23-07 and 01-24-07.
